Old Dominion University is a higher learning institution based in Norfolk, Virginia. Founded as the College of William and Mary in 1930, the university became known as Old Dominion in 1962, after the historic nickname for the state of Virginia granted by King Charles II when it was a colony of England. With over 24,000 students the university is one of the largest higher learning institutions in the tristate area.
The amount of choice to be had at Old Dominion is truly staggering; between Certificates, Minors, bachelors, masters and PhDs there are no less than 427 academic paths for a student to take. The university’s Office of Research is responsible for co-ordinating the expansive facilities at Old Dominion which focus on a wide range of scientific fields. In 2016 technology developed at the Vision Lab led to researchers being awarded a $1.6 million dollar grant towards their work in the detection of malignant brain tumours.
In reference to the university’s original name, Old Dominion’s sports teams are known as the Monarchs. Competitive sports played at the university include baseball, American football, hockey and rowing. For the more casual sports enthusiast, there is also an expansive Recreation Centre on the university site.
Some famous sons and daughters of Old Dominion are congresswoman Thelma Drake, member of the band America Dan Peek, astronaut Michael Bloomfield, and basketball player and coach Anne Donovan.

Description As part of the Electrical Engineering program of the Engineering Division and the Center of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at NYU Abu Dhabi the group of Prof. Kostas J. Kyriakopoulos seeks to improve the autonomy of Field Robotic systems by fusing control theoretic and machine intelligence approaches. Formal models are directly applied in real experimental facilities. Marine Robotics is our main emphasis, but candidates with prior experience on Aerial or Ground Systems are not excluded. We are seeking two (2) Post-Doctoral associates to join our expanding team and make significant contributions to the field. The researchers are expected to have (i) strong engineering skills to find innovative and cost-effective means to improve our research, and (ii) exemplary passion and motivation to enhance our multidisciplinary research at the intersection of control theory and machine intelligence. Methodologies of interest include: Robot modelling, Nonlinear and Optimal control, Reinforcement learning, and Data-driven modeling and control. The Post-Doctoral associates will be based at NYU Abu Dhabi and will directly report to Prof. K.J.Kyriakopoulos, in close collaboration with other researchers, PhD students, and undergraduate research assistants. Applications are now invited for the following post: Professor and Director Pan Sutong Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Policy Research Institute (Post Ref.: 24/245) Pan Sutong Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Policy Research Institute (PSEI) aims to promote policy-related research on economic development of the Mainland and Hong Kong. It will synergise resources and expertise in the Mainland and Hong Kong to strengthen research on salient issues related to the economic and financial development of the two places. It will also provide research consultancy on industry and economic policies, in addition to offering policy advice to the authorities to foster mutual prosperity of the Mainland and Hong Kong. The Institute is seeking an outstanding scholar with distinguished scholarly accomplishment in research, teaching and knowledge exchange in the field of policy-related research on economic development of the Mainland and Hong Kong. The appointee will be appointed as a Professor in the Department of Economics and concurrently as Director of the PSEI. The Director of PSEI will be expected to (i) provide strategic direction and leadership for the operation of the Institute to ensure research quality and effectiveness; (ii) formulate and implement strategies for networking and building rapport with academia, business sector, industries and other related stakeholders; (iii) explore new collaboration opportunities with community partners and stakeholders and (iv) identify and secure funding opportunities through grants, partnerships and sponsorships to support the research projects/programmes and various activities of the Institute. General Requirements Applicants should have a PhD degree in Economics or relevant discipline, with substantial teaching experience and excellent track record in research and scholarly activities. Good networking capability and ability to establish linkages with the business sector, industries and other research stakeholders would be a definite advantage. Salary and Benefits The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee. Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointments with possibility of consideration for substantiation.
