The Nursing School of Coimbra was established in 2004 through the merging of nursing schools, Bissaya Barreto and Dr Angelo da Fonseca. There are three campuses that make up the university; Campus A and C are located on the parish of Santo Antonio dos Olivais in Coimbra near to the university hospital. Campus B can be found near the parish of S Martinho do Bispo near the university’s General Hospital and University Centre. Specialising in nursing education, the school offers undergraduate, master’s and postgraduate degrees in addition to professional training courses. Undergraduate students are taught across eight semesters in a range of theoretical, practical, laboratory and clinical classes, as well as seminars and tutorials in small groups. Undergraduate modules include anatomophysiology, clinical microbiology, and developmental psychology. Once students have completed their undergraduate and master’s degrees in nursing, they can choose to go on to a postgraduate degree in areas including occupational nursing, wound treatment and mental health first aid. Students at the school have the opportunity to participate in a range of extracurricular activities and clubs, including Greek club Sigma Theta Tau, which was founded at the school in 2011. Located on Campus C are a range of sporting facilities including a football pitch.

Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs. Job Requirements A good degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field. Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications would be advantageous. Track record in project leadership and impactful industry experience in Chemical Process Technology. Deep technical specialist with 10 or more years of working experience in unit operations (e.g. Heat Exchanger, Distillation Column, Reactors, Cooling Tower etc). Practical knowledge of Quality Management Systems and Engineering standards including but not limited to ISO9001, OSHA and BSI etc. Practiced in Chemical Process Design software (for e.g. HYSYS) Proficiency in analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and related methods, with a focus on biopharmaceutical analysis would be an advantage. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possess industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage.

The role works closely with Executive and senior leaders to lead the development of high-quality education solutions, overseeing project implementation and monitoring in collaboration with delivery clusters, learning and teaching, student services and global engagement teams. A key responsibility is ensuring a seamless transition from the project bid phase to implementation, aligned with broader College and Portfolio priorities. You will lead the development, co-design and implementation of innovative training initiatives alongside College and Portfolio teams. You will establish monitoring and evaluation frameworks, including KPIs and reporting mechanisms, to track progress, timelines, budget and impact for Executive stakeholders. Continuous innovation and improvement are central to the role, applying agile and best-practice approaches to refine and future-proof education solutions. To be successful in this position, you'll have / you'll have as a minimum: Experience in Education or Training Solution Design -experience designing effective education or workforce training solutions through adapting existing products, frameworks and delivery models (e.g. accredited courses, micro credentials, short courses) to meet stakeholder requirements. Strategic use of existing capabilities - ability to leverage and adapt existing training products, services and capabilities to meet client or industry needs Stakeholder Engagement - ability to work independently to identify stakeholder needs, communicate with influence, and facilitate effective co-design with a diverse range of stakeholders. Knowledge of learning design principles - familiarity with contemporary instructional design and digital pedagogy to ensure learning effectiveness, particularly for adult and workplace learners.
