The Journalism Department at Liverpool John Moores University is seeking an enthusiastic and talented senior lecturer to replace a longstanding team member upon their retirement in August 2026. Our department has a well-established, international reputation for delivering high quality journalism and sports journalism programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We are proud of our strong recruitment, extensive industry links and positive graduate outcomes, but above all of the excellent practical training and academic education that our students receive. We are looking for a senior lecturer who will be able to teach across our journalism and sports journalism courses. We would be particularly keen to hear from applicants who can lead both practical sessions and academic modules that consider journalism theory and explore contemporary debates in journalism around representation, ethics and the impact of technology. You will have a strong background in journalism. You will demonstrate either substantial experience of teaching journalism and/ or sports journalism or substantial relevant professional experience as a practicing journalist combined with a proven commitment to education and training in an industry context. Knowledge of the NCTJ would also be an advantage. Through a transformational philanthropic commitment from the Foundation, UNSW is seeking to appoint the inaugural Shirley and John Sarks Chair in Age-related Macular Degeneration. The Chair will continue the legacy of Dr Shirley and John with a unique opportunity to access the Sarks archives as part of their research program. The Opportunity Based within UNSW Medicine & Health’s School of Clinical Medicine, this role represents a unique opportunity to drive world-class research into age-related macular degeneration (AMD) the leading cause of irreversible vision loss in developed countries and other blinding eye diseases. The role will be filled through an international recruitment process, attracting a world-leading researcher or physician-researcher to UNSW’s Faculty of Medicine & Health. AMD is the leading cause of irreversible vision loss in developed countries. The new research Chair seeks to attract a world-leading researcher to UNSW’s Faculty of Medicine & Health who will advance knowledge into the causes and cures for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other blinding eye diseases, in line with the Faculty’s Better, Equitable Health for All Strategy . The Chair will undertake a world class clinical and or laboratory research program in AMD in the Faculty’s School of Clinical Medicine. Level E (in addition to the above) Significant track record in age related macular degeneration research leadership, with publications of high quality and high international impact, with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence and deliver research leadership. Demonstrated academic excellence and outstanding contribution to research and scholarship, including leadership of teams and projects. Demonstrated leadership in engagement and partnerships with the funders, the profession, stakeholders, industry and the broader community. Substantial experience in high quality supervision of higher degree research and undergraduate research students and postdoctoral research staff. Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to work and influence across disciplines, faculties, institutions, industry and professional bodies. This is a key professional post, essential to the successful delivery of strategically important services and support. You will maintain and develop the resource discovery activity of the Library, through effective use of metadata, and ensuring that key systems such as the resource discovery system, digital content system and relevant parts of the library management system are accessible, easy to use and fit for purpose. You will support user access and authentication primarily through OpenAthens. In addition, you will engage proactively in innovation and development in relation to these systems. You should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and preferably hold a professional qualification in library and information management or related discipline. You should have knowledge of Dewey, MARC21, RDA and related standards and familiarity with library discovery systems. This is currently a hybrid role with part of the working week on campus and part of the week working remotely. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  Job Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.• Undertake these responsibilities in the project: i. Lead and support high quality publications to disseminate the applied research outcomes. ii. Plan, organize and carry out experiments and trials in the food pilot plant to achieve the objectives iii. Manage and complete the project by presenting the findings in conferences or meetings with industrial collaborator, submitting timely data & documents, and purchase chemicals or consumables. iv. Consolidate the data in order to generate sufficient scientific evidence for meetings slides and report in conferences. v. Engage and communicate with collaborators for progress meetings and report generation to meet the grantor's requirements. The candidate is to liaise and communicate with any internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met and to perform any other adhoc duties assigned by Supervisor.  Job requirements Have relevant competence in the areas of protein chemistry, analytical chemistry for amino acid profiling, polyphenol profile analysis, SDS-PAGE, and protein hydrolysis. Have a degree in Food Science and Technology, or Analytical Chemistry. Possessing a Master's or PhD degree will be advantageous Experience and Knowledge of operating HPLC, MALDI-TOF and Q-TOF Mass spectrometry for protein sequencing, carbohydrate/Sugar analysis, and polyphenol identification. Previous experience as lab-in-charge or equipment-in-charge will be advantageous. Able to communicate with industrial collaborators to share key findings, seek supports, or conducting commercial trials. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety, and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
