The School of Engineering and Built Environment seeks to appoint a post-doctoral Research Fellow to work on a research project for 24 months funded by LEARN Logistics by Kuehne Foundation. This is part of a project in capacity building to improve higher education skills in Ethiopia and to establish regional universities as local powerhouses in research and teaching related to logistics and supply chain management. Your main duty will be carrying out joint research projects with Ethiopian academics, guest lecturing, academic-practice engagement projects, reciprocal research stays, curriculum review, and co-supervision for Ethiopian students. The duties will also seek to establish new ties between LJMU and universities in Ethiopia and potentially the wider region. You should hold a PhD degree and have an in-depth knowledge of logistics and supply chain management with direct application in Ethiopia where LEARN Logistics by Kuehne Foundation is seeking to strengthen the education experience for logistics and supply chain management students and faculty. In addition, you should have relevant experience in the local industrial and academic processes and customs. It would be desirable for candidates to have a network of contacts from the private and public sector to support data collection and information gathering for research activities. Previous participation in curricula design and review processes is beneficial. Experience in presenting results at meetings is essential. You should be able to work effectively as a team member with academics, industrial partners, and research students. Preferably, you should be fluent in Amharic and another local Ethiopian language. The Centre for Health AI Research and Translation (CHART) was established in late 2025 under the LKS Faculty of Medicine to provide a unique platform that facilitates innovative health AI research and accelerates the translation of clinically validated AI and big data systems in a sustainable and trusted manner. We are now seeking a highly motivated researcher with strong technical expertise and a demonstrated interest in developing, evaluating, and translating AI-enabled digital health solutions. The appointee will contribute to interdisciplinary research projects involving academic, clinical, technical, and industry partners, and lead the planning, development, delivery, and operation of CHART’s technical platforms and digital solutions, ensuring they are robust, scalable, secure, and aligned with the Centre’s strategic objectives. Key responsibilities include: Conducting and supporting high-quality research in health AI, digital health, clinical informatics, research-support systems, or related areas. Leading the technical team and providing day-to-day supervision, guidance, and performance management. Overseeing and contributing to the design, development, deployment, and evaluation of AI-enabled digital health platforms, applications, databases, and related infrastructure. Ensuring system security, reliability, performance, scalability, and compliance with relevant data governance and privacy requirements. Working closely with academic, clinical, technical, and industry collaborators to advance translational health AI research. Translating clinical, operational, and research needs into practical technical solutions, prototypes, and implementation plans. Coordinating technical resources, project timelines, and deliverables across multiple stakeholders. Providing strategic technical input to support the Centre’s growth and long-term development. Managing integration with external systems, devices, APIs, and platforms as required. Reviewing and improving development workflows, documentation, deployment processes, and technical standards. Working closely with academic, clinical, technical, and industry collaborators to advance translational health AI research. Presenting research findings, progress updates, technical proposals, and system recommendations to internal and external stakeholders. For appointment as RAP, candidates will additionally be expected to demonstrate the ability to develop an independent research agenda, lead research initiatives, secure external funding, and publish in high-quality venues. Applicants should have: A Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, Biomedical Informatics, Health Informatics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline. Strong research and technical background in AI, digital health, software systems, system architecture, databases, cloud deployment, or healthcare data environments. Substantial hands-on experience with technical platforms, software development, system integration, databases, cloud deployment, and production support. A track record of research outputs, technical achievements, platform development, system implementation, or digital transformation. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, coordination, and project management skills. The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and collaborate effectively with academic, clinical, technical, and industry partners. Familiarity with AI, digital health, research systems, and healthcare data environments, and experience in ReactJS/Next.js, Swift, Kotlin, PHP, MySQL, and cloud-based deployment, as well as familiarity with AR, Unity integration or Web3/NFT platforms, would be a strong advantage. Candidates with less experience in publications and project management may be considered for the post of PDF. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. For RAP, the appointment on fixed term will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Description The Water Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a post-doctoral associate to work on "Application of Membrane Desalination to Treat Water from UAE Feed Sources," under the supervision of Professor Nidal Hilal, Director of the Water Research Center and Global Professor of Engineering and Professor Raed Hashaikeh, Professor of Mechanical Engineering. The successful applicant will lead an innovative project focused on developing advanced, high-flux membrane technologies tailored to the unique and extreme water conditions of the Arabian Gulf. He/she will tackle challenges related to high salinity (up to 47,000 ppm) and severe biological fouling, driving innovations in high-pressure Reverse Osmosis (RO) processes. The role involves characterizing local seawater and desalination brine to inform targeted membrane design, as well as advanced membrane fabrication techniques utilizing electrospinning, phase inversion, and additive manufacturing. The researcher will also develop robust pretreatment processes (MF, UF, NF) to protect systems against harsh regional challenges, including harmful algal blooms. Experimental and theoretical investigations of mass transport, compaction, and energy efficiency will be performed to optimize desalination processes for regional sustainability. The successful applicant will oversee projects, develop extensive technical expertise, and implement innovative solutions. He/she will contribute to the development of novel concepts and proposal writing, while efficiently addressing complex challenges. Responsibilities will include writing reports, authoring publications, drafting patents, and presenting results at conferences. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated knowledge of membrane fabrication, characterization, and separation processes. Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and exceptional verbal and written communication abilities are essential. The candidate should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team. Applicants must have a PhD, or equivalent advanced or terminal degree from a recognized institution of higher learning, in materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, or related field, with no more than 5 years post receipt of the PhD. Excellent experimental and analytical skills relevant to the project are required. Candidates with a demonstrated history of peer-reviewed publications in a related area, along with prior expertise in materials science and analytical chemistry will be preferred. This position will begin in September 2026, as a two-year contract, renewable depending on performance. Description The Smart Materials Lab (Panče Naumov Group) in the Division of Science and Mathematics, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a post-doctoral associate to work on crystal structure determination using electron or X-ray crystallography. Candidates must have substantial experience in crystallography, specifically in the structure solution and refinement of small molecule crystals using either electron or X-ray diffraction techniques. While candidates with experience in structure analysis based on powder diffraction, neutron diffraction, or scattering data will also be considered, preference will be given to those with expertise in electron diffraction. Candidates should be capable of preparing samples, independently collecting data, and solving and refining crystal structures, including those that are theoretically and experimentally challenging, such as structures that exhibit twinning, disorder, or that change or decay over time. Proficiency in refining structures from electron diffraction data collected using a microscope or specialized equipment is preferred. The position is for two years, with the possibility of renewal, subject to mutual agreement. The successful candidate is also expected to play an active role in other projects and activities within the Smart Materials Lab and assist in supervising undergraduate or PhD students.
