Nexus International University

Nexus International University was established in 2011 by accreditation of the Ugandan National Council for Higher Education. It was originally named the Virtual University of Uganda but was renamed in 2010 when the first vice chancellor, Professor Deirdre Carabine, was appointed. 
The university is located in Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda. 
Academically, the university is organised into six faculties: business administration and management, computing and information technology, energy, global and development studies, public health and medical sciences, law, and education and humanities. Within each faculty are different departments, which offer a wide variety of degree programmes at both undergraduate and graduate degree level. 
Outside the classroom, students can participate in the university’s vast array of extracurricular activities.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF ROBOTICS 

The School of Robotics is one of the seven industry-themed Schools in the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang). Each School consists of an Education, Research and Development Institute (ERDI) for teaching and research collaboration, a one-stop School Office providing professional services to support student administration and activities, members of staff, and industry partners, and an affiliated School Joint-Venture Company jointly established by XJTLU and the School’s partner for industry-embedded teaching, learning, practical, and other activities. The governance of the School is through a School Council. The Dean of School oversees the School Management Team as well as contributing to the leadership of the college.

The School of Robotics is jointly developed by the University and an industry partner – Siasun, to deliver the industry-themed programme(s). PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

The School of Robotics is adopting a new higher education model based upon the concept of Syntegrative Education (SE). SE is a new model developed by the University to address an increasingly networked and complex future of work in the 4th Industrial Revolution. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCES


	A doctoral research (normally PhD) degree in electrical and electronics, mechatronics, intelligent controls, robotics engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, computer vision, mobile robotics, machine learning, data science and analytics, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent professional practice and engagement.
	Previous experience in coding (C/C++, Python, ROS etc) in robotics-related domains.
	Self-motivated for innovative teaching.
	Clear understanding of the philosophy and concept of Syntegrative Education (SE).
	Demonstrable past teaching/industry experiences or practices aligned with Syntegrative Education (SE).
	A commitment to Continual Professional Development in all areas of the role as an academic at the university.
	Ability to work, teach and research in English
	Strong team-work spirit.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE


	A good track record of engagement with business and industry.
	University-level teaching experience.
	Relevant industry experience.
	Appropriate research experience, including working with industry, for the corresponding academic position level.
	Experience in intensive teaching and problem-based learning, and a willingness to be innovative in teaching practices.
	An institutional builder, able to work with wider disciplines across the college.

The successful candidate will join the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and contribute to the department's clinical, educational, and research missions. This position is designed for physicians pursuing an academic career that integrates patient care, medical education, and scientific research within a dynamic and rapidly evolving academic health center.

Applicants with expertise or interest in subspecialties—including Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Medicine, Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, Family Planning, or Gynecologic Endocrinology—are particularly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Clinical Activities


	Provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient obstetric and gynecological care.
	Diagnose and manage obstetric and gynecological conditions according to evidence-based clinical practice.
	Perform medical and surgical procedures appropriate to their qualifications and clinical privileges.
	Participate in antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, emergency, and gynecological care.

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to investigate the effect of explosions and impacts on thin steel plates.

 

Key Responsibilities


	All jobs are accountable for producing a range of outputs or end-results. Please state the major activities carried out to achieve the end results (what needs to be done to achieve the end results)
	Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. 
	Undertake these responsibilities in the project: 
	i.    Coordinates with collaborators and service provider the organization and execution of blast and impact tests. Ensure the required data is collected and that it is analysed as needed
	ii.    Conduct numerical simulations using LS-Dyna and OpenRadioss to further the understanding of the phenomena and calibrate empirical/analytical models.  
	Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
	Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
	Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
	To communicate with any internal and external stakeholders required to meet the project deliverables.
	Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor.


 

Job Requirements


	Have relevant competence in the areas of Finite Element simulations and experimental work
	Have a degree in a relevant Engineering discipline. Possessing a Master’s or PhD degree will be advantageous
	Knowledge of shock mechanics and protection engineering will be advantageous
	Knowledge of non linear materials modelling would be advantageous
