The New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) is a private and not-for-profit university located in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. It was founded in 1940.

NEIT offers associate, Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in the fields of Architecture and Interior Design, Automotive and Marine Technology, Building Technology and Construction, Digital Media and Communications, Engineering Technology, Health Science and Services, Information Technology, Law Enforcement and Veterinary Science.

Over 50 programmes are offered at NEIT, some of which can be completed in 18 months or three years. Students can develop a close working relationship with their teachers thanks to a low student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1.

NEIT’s Shipbuilding/Marine Trades and Advanced Manufacturing Institute (SAMI) provides free training for unemployed people to become welders or machinists.

Students studying in a certain field of technology can also join the relevant student club as a way of growing their professional network and enhancing their resume. Clubs include surgical technology, video game development and criminal justice. There are also recreational student clubs such as music, golf and intramural sports.

NEIT takes part in SkillsUSA, a membership organisation which organises events and competitions to develop students’ vocational and technical abilities. The SkillsUSA network opens up opportunities for students to contact future employers.

The town of East Greenwich is scenic and safe. Its waterfront is its hub for social and cultural affairs, with numerous restaurants and bars. Boating and fishing are popular pastimes. NEIT also has two satellite locations in Warwick, Rhode Island, the state’s second largest city.

About the role This position will undertake research using the Kids and Sibs study, a longitudinal investigation examining predictors of bipolar disorder development in a high-risk population with up to 15 years of follow-up. The study includes rich phenotypic data, as well as neuroimaging and blood biomarkers (including genetic data) on up to 440 individuals, with varying lengths of follow up (PI Mitchell). The data are aligned with an international dataset (across four US Universities) ensuring opportunities for robust replication. We also encourage applicants with broad interests in neuroscience and epidemiology relating skills, as additional research opportunities are available using linked data research, and intervention development/evaluation (PI Ratheesh). Applicants with prior research expertise relating to bipolar disorder or depression are especially encouraged. The position is part funded by the Centre for Research Excellence in Bipolar Disorder (https://www.corebd.com.au/). Key skills and experience required: Level A A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience. An understanding of youth mental health, mood disorders, prevention and prediction that supports such data analyses. Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments. Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision. Conceptualisation and completion of data analyses with skills related to epidemiology or neuroscience. Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships. Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students. Role & Responsibilities: The role acts as a specialist technology consultant, providing third line support on an escalation basis where required to resolve service-affecting issues, and contributes to the IT Systems vision and strategy. Manage to a high standard a case load of incidents, problems and service requests, and where necessary find and document new workarounds and resolutions. The Role Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Department of Engineering, with a focus on advanced solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) modelling, three-dimensional combustion and engine simulation, and AI-assisted modelling approaches for hybrid marine propulsion system development incorporating a range of decarbonisation technologies. This position is part of the EPSRC MaRes Hub and the Horizon Europe project SEASTARS, both of which aim to advance maritime sustainability through the integration of innovative emission-reduction and energy-efficiency technologies across multiple ship classes and shore power applications. The project seeks to deliver industry-relevant modelling toolkits that enable optimal design and operation of greener vessels, backed by real-world demonstrations. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of multi-disciplinary modelling, advanced AI algorithms, and decision-support tool development. Responsibilities will include programming, analysing and interpreting data, and contributing to innovative solutions that support maritime decarbonisation. Additional duties involve supporting research funding proposals, engaging in licensing or spin-out activities, and enhancing the public and commercial impact of the research. The post-holder is employed to work on the EPSRC and Horizon projects which will be led by Prof Dawei Wu. Whilst this means that the post-holder will not be carrying out independent research in his/her own right, the expectation is that they will contribute to the advancement of the project, through the development of their own research ideas/adaptation and development of research protocols. This post is fixed term is time limited and will end on 31/12/2027. Successful applicants will, ideally, be in post by 1 July 2026.
