Your personal sphere of play: We invite applications for the position of a Group Leader in Organic Chemistry (Young Investigator) at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, within the Bonifazi research group, at the Faculty of Chemistry. The successful candidate will assume a scientifically central role within the research group, contributing to core research and teaching activities while developing an independent research profile.The position is designed for an early-career organic chemist with a focus on synthetic organic chemistry. The Group Leader will be fully integrated into the scientific, educational, and organizational activities of the host research group and the Institute of Organic Chemistry. The Group Leader is expected to actively support the research group through student supervision, contributions to research grant applications, and participation in scientific and strategic planning, while pursuing their own research. The position provides a structured, supportive framework for developing scientific independence, with the clear objective of establishing an autonomous research direction by the end of the contract period. Full scientific, infrastructural, and mentoring support is provided to facilitate career development, leadership training, and the transition toward independence. Your future tasks: Active participation in research, teaching and administration, which means: Collaborative and independent research in organic synthesis: Develop and pursue an original research program focused on new organic reactivity, synthetic methodology, and the synthesis of complex molecular architectures, while actively contributing to the host research group's scientific activities. Student supervision and mentoring: Co-supervise bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students within the research group, providing close scientific guidance, regular feedback, and structured mentoring in modern organic chemistry. Research grant applications and funding strategy: Actively contribute to the preparation and submission of joint research grant applications and progressively develop independent funding proposals, supported through mentoring and strategic guidance within the group. Development of leadership and management skills: Gradually assume responsibility in coordinating scientific projects, supervising junior researchers, and contributing to group organization, with the explicit aim of developing academic leadership, mentoring, and project-management skills. Teaching contributions: Holding courses independently or in teams within the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. Participate in teaching activities of the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, including lectures, exercises, and laboratory courses in organic chemistry. Scientific dissemination and visibility: Publish research results in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and actively participate in national and international conferences and scientific networks. This is part of your personality: Completed doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in organic synthesis. A maximum of one postdoctoral research experience in an internationally visible academic research environment. Demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following fields: organic synthesis, development of new reactions, methodology, multi-step synthesis, or synthesis of complex molecular architectures. Clear scientific interest in developing new reactivity and innovative synthetic concepts in organic chemistry to construct complex architectures. Proven ability to conduct independent research, combined with a strong willingness to integrate into an established research group. Initial experience in, or strong motivation to acquire, third-party funding for academic research. Strong organizational, communication, and mentoring skills. High level of commitment, reliability, and ability to work collaboratively in an academic environment. The addition of an MBBS programme to our health portfolio will enhance our overall health education provision at the University and augment the existing programmes through opportunities for inter-professional learning across the health-related programmes. About the Job UEL School of Medicine is looking for a Medical Education Fellow (Curriculum Development) to help design an innovative, community-focused MBBS programme launching in 2027. This role offers the opportunity to shape a new curriculum from the outset, working with simulation and technology-enhanced learning, and contributing to a programme designed to widen participation and address local health needs. The postholder will work closely with the Medical Education and Curriculum teams to develop teaching materials, support innovative approaches to learning and assessment, and contribute to a curriculum designed to serve a diverse student population and address local health inequalities. The role We are seeking an ambitious and highly motivated postdoctoral Research Fellow in quantitative genetics to join a multidisciplinary research team. The post involves working with a team based at the University of Surrey, King’s College London and the University of Oxford. The post is based at the University of Surrey with Professor Angelica Ronald. The project aims to advance understanding of the brain basis and common genetic architecture underlying infant and childhood neurodevelopment, with a particular focus on the development of autism spectrum conditions. Objectives will be achieved by applying advanced multivariate analytic methods to large-scale datasets emerging from genome-wide association studies of developmental traits. Existing datasets, including genetic, neuroimaging and clinical data, will be combined to generate novel insights into biological and developmental processes contributing to autism and related traits. You will be responsible for conducting a range of advanced quantitative analysis on secondary datasets incorporating genetic, neuroimaging and clinical data on child development. You will have responsibility for supporting integration across the study team including: overseeing data transfer agreements between institutions; version-controlling and archiving code and leading data cleaning, harmonisation and analysis. Throughout the project you will work with an interdisciplinary team of lead investigators and external collaborators. You will have access to advanced methodological training courses and other professional development training opportunities. You will lead on high-impact publications, conference presentations and dissemination of results. About you You should have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline such as quantitative genetics, behavioural genetics, human genetics, developmental psychology, neuroscience and individual differences psychology (although individuals who have almost completed a doctoral degree may be appointed). You will also have an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline with a 2:1 or first-class grade (or international equivalent). You will already have some experience in conducting quantitative data analytic studies and preparing data for analysis and be proficient in using R, Python or similar programming language. You should have the ability to write clearly and concisely with a good publication record commensurate with the level of your career, and the ability to work independently with excellent organisation and communication skills.
