Founded in 2000 by the Taiwanese government, the National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) aims to promote the southern area’s economy and even out the educational standards in the country’s southern and northern areas.

Located in the Nanzi District of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, NUK is not far from the Nanzi interchange of National Highway 1. It is 30 minutes from Kaohsiung’s train station.

NUK is focused on innovation in humanities and technology, however there are 20 departments, including western and eastern languages and literature, kinesiology, health and leisure studies, government and law, applied mathematics, applied economics, electrical engineering, life sciences, traditional arts, finance and Asia-Pacific industrial and business management. The former is known for cultivating Taiwan’s industrial elite.

Research alliance agreements have been set up with many institutions around the world, including the China Steel Cooperation, Metal Industries Research and Development Centre, National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium, Zuoying Branch of Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital, Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital and National Applied Research Laboratories.

The campus is known for its open space; for example, walls do not mark its boundaries. Biodiversity is a key feature at NUK and there are 60 different fish species in the Water Land Park’s pond. Facilities include a gymnasium, library and canteens.

Kaohsiung (population approximately: 2.7 million) is Taiwan’s largest port and its second-largest city. Despite being the nucleus for the country’s petrochemical industries, urban planning has succeeded in transforming its manufacturing roots with many cultural venues, waterside parks and cafés. There are also two swimming beaches and 10km² of forested land.

Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU), located in Wenzhou, China, one of three Sino-American universities along with NYU Shanghai and Duke Kunshan University, is approved by the Ministry of Education of China. Launched in 2012, WKU offers a unique model of higher education in partnership with Kean University, a comprehensive, public university in the state of New Jersey that is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The College of Business and Public Management is an AACSB-accredited business school. Wenzhou is one of the most vibrant and economically advanced developed cities on China’s East Coast, located one hour by plane and three hours by high-speed train from Shanghai. WKU sits on approximately 500 beautiful acres and currently enrolls about 5,200 students, and it is now in the midst of a rapid growth that will bring enrollment to 8,500 students within the next five years. All instruction is in English and all curriculum is provided by Kean University. In addition to its current 18 undergraduate programs, WKU has been approved by the Ministry of Education for offering 8 Master’s and 3 doctorate programs. Position Information: We invite applicants to apply for a full-time, 10-month, non-tenure-track position at the rank of Lecturer in Management, to begin Spring 2026 (February 11, 2026) and Fall 2026 (August 16, 2026). Role to commence no earlier than 1 August 2026 Full time opportunity Fixed Term for up to 3 years Level A Academic Research only Based at La Trobe University’s Melbourne (Bundoora) campus Work with inspiring people who are driven to make a difference About the position EPAS is seeking a Research Officer with expertise in sensory biology, capable of contributing to both field and laboratory components of an Australian Research Council funded project led by Dr Amanda Franklin. The project aims to uncover how animals with miniature brains can efficiently process multisensory stimuli. Using a powerful combination of techniques – high-resolution imaging, intracellular recordings and behavioural experiments – this project aims to uncover how beetles detect and respond to deep-red stimuli and infrared (heat) information. Results will provide new information about evolution and function of sensory systems and have the potential to unlock biological solutions for modern problems, including improved efficiency of sensors and image processing. The Research Officer will lead field expeditions to collect insects, primarily based in the mallee regions of Australia (particularly Western Australia) and forests in North America or Europe. They will have the opportunity to contribute to anatomical (e.g. electron microscopy), physiological (e.g., electrophysiology), and/or behavioural experiments (e.g. field studies, controlled laboratory studies). The Research Officer will join a world-class team and benefit from collaboration and training with leading scientists across multiple institutions, including Dr Patricia Jusuf (University of Melbourne), Prof Gregor Belušič (University of Ljubljana), and Prof Kentaro Arikawa (Graduate University for Advanced Studies, SOKENDAI), with planned research visits to these groups during the project. The role provides variety and flexibility. The successful candidate will be able to develop independent research directions, contribute to supervision of higher degree research students, analyse complex datasets, and lead the preparation of peer-reviewed publications.
