Responsibilities Reporting to the President, the Vice-President for Teaching and Learning (VPTL) will provide strategic leadership in advancing future-ready teaching and learning initiatives at the University. The VPTL will oversee the development and implementation of the UG common core curriculum, fundamental courses, and Redbird MPhil Program, ensuring quality in teaching and learning activities while enhancing students' educational experiences. As a key member of the Senior Management Team, the VPTL will collaborate with the President, other Vice Presidents, Deans, Academic Registrar, and relevant units to establish and implement protocols and policies that ensure the effective delivery of teaching and learning. In alignment with the "Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses" framework, the VPTL will coordinate teaching and learning activities and academic support with the Clearwater Bay campus. The VPTL is responsible for the following areas, including but not limited to: Lead the development and execution of the University’s strategies for teaching and learning, fostering a culture of excellence. Provide leadership and management to the College of Education Sciences (CES), College of Future Technology (CFT) and Institute of Education Innovation and Practice (IEIP) in shaping innovative learning and teaching approaches, including strategically leading the Red Bird MPhil Program, promoting and implementing our signature inquiry-based cross-disciplinary active learning model; as well as overseeing curriculum development and quality enhancement, and ensuring relevance to global perspectives and industry needs. Develop and implement strategies to recruit, develop, and retain high-quality faculty members for CES and CFT. Promote the implementation of blended, digital and AI-enhanced education offerings to provide students with flexible and individualized learning options. Cultivate an environment that promotes innovation and excellence in teaching and learning and best practice sharing. Develop a clear framework for managing educational performance to ensure our standards meet those expected of a world-class university. Lead the formulation of policies concerning teaching and learning. Facilitate the implementation and optimization of a professional development plan for members engaged in university-wide teaching and related training activities. Integrate and allocate teaching resources by assessing and identifying the resources needed to uphold our mission of teaching and learning. Foster integrity, quality, creativity, communication, and innovation across all teaching and learning related responsibilities. Develop annual budgets and manage financial resources in the supervised areas. Requirements: The VPTL is expected to be an experienced, dedicated, and visionary educator with international background and extensive experience in higher education teaching management and exceptional leadership skills, together with energy, passion, and unwavering commitment to promoting teaching innovation and interdisciplinary education and enhancing the quality of higher education. The ideal candidate should be able to see the big picture, be knowledgeable about pedagogy, teaching methods, curriculum development, and quality assurance, and be open-minded to technology and innovation, with international and forward-thinking vision, strong drive, and excellent execution skills to develop and implement innovative solutions that promote teaching effectiveness and quality. The ideal candidate should possess a research background to support the integration of academic research and teaching, along with a deep knowledge of education system of both Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, demonstrating outstanding leadership and management abilities in inspiring faculty to pursue excellence in teaching, as well as possessing excellent communication skills to develop partnerships with other higher education institutions, government agencies, and industries. Remuneration and Conditions of Service The post of VPTL is a full-time appointment, normally for an initial term of 4 years, and renewable subject to mutual agreement. Deliver structured presentations of research plans and findings every two weeks. ii. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior research engineers and undergraduate students working in the same research field. iii. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Develop naval architecure calculation and ship design tools based on analytical or empirical methods, i.e., stability calculation, resistance and propulsion estimation, weight estimation, etc. ii.
