Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) was founded in 1968 but its history dates back to 1946 when Iligan City High School was established. The school was renamed Northern Mindanao Institute of Technology in 1965 and three years later it became a unit of the Mindanao State University as the Iligan Institute of technology. The university is located in Iligan City, in the Northern Mindanao region of the Philippines. There are seven colleges within the university: engineering and technology, science and mathematics, computer studies, education, arts and social sciences, economics, business and accountancy, and nursing. There is also the Integrated Developmental School, which is part of the university’s College of Education. The school is split into a junior high school and a senior high school and offers education to students between grades 7 and 12. The school specialises in mathematics and science. Outside the classroom students can take part in the university’s various extra-curricular activities. There are a number of arts, cultural and sports clubs that students can join as well as societies and organisations that help students develop their management, leadership, communication and social skills. Throughout the year the university hosts a variety of events on campus aimed at enriching the student experience. These include conferences on female entrepreneurship in the Philippines and webinars on diversity in education.

This position is situated within the Centre for Immersification, dedicated to applied research in immersive technologies and bridging the gap between academia and industry. Research staff at the Centre have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets relevant to industry demands while working on innovative projects within the university. The research team is seeking a Research Fellow or Research Engineer with strong expertise in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and social science methodologies to lead the user research and policy development, as part of an interdisciplinary team investigating harmful user-generated content in virtual worlds as part of a national research initiative on Online Trust and Safety. The primary responsibility of this role is to develop safety guidelines such as content moderation principles for user generated content, and recommendations for pre-screening, real-time monitoring and reporting, and design experiments and interventions to investigate the effect of guidelines. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of faculty members, engineers, and industry partners, including renown researchers at the College of Computing and Data Science (CCDS) at NTU. Technical skills, natural curiosity, versatility, and enthusiasm are highly desired traits that will enable success in this fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Manage the research project together with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Design and execute surveys and interviews to collect data (including participant recruitment) to address the relevant research questions. Perform statistical analysis on survey/experimental data, and conduct thematic analysis on interview transcripts and open-ended survey responses. To lead and report research findings in a form of high-quality publications and present in international peer-reviewed conferences and journals. Design scenario-based experiments to test user responses to new reporting mechanisms Draft comprehensive security guidelines and reporting frameworks for virtual world users, regulators, and platform providers Validate these guidelines through consultations with expert panels and representative user groups to ensure cross-cultural relevance and clarity Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements Have relevant competence in the areas of cybersecurity, human-computer interaction, communication, or psychology. Masters or Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, Cyber Security, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Information Technology will be advantageous. Strong interest and passion in cybersecurity. Expert proficiency in mixed-methods research (Qualitative & Quantitative), experience with systematic literature reviews, survey design, semi-structured interviews, and experimental study design is required. Familiarity with statistical analysis software (such as SPSS, SAS, or R) and qualitative analysis packages Demonstrated abilities in managing research projects on the ground end-to-end, from defining research questions to publishing results. Able to grasp new technology concepts quickly, and combine contrarian, out-of-the-box thinking when performing security assessments. Experience with public policy-related research will be a plus factor, as well as experience in research with adolescents. The main research activities of the Aspelmeyer group include quantum optical control of levitated solid state objects, the exploration of their quantum properties for fundamental questions and novel quantum technology platforms, as well as precision measurements of ultra-weak gravitational forces. On the quantum side, we explore the extreme regime of motional quantum states of solids and their interactions to understand how to maximize mass, delocalization, and coherence time in quantum experiments. On the gravity side, we explore the extreme regime of gravitational phenomena of miniature source masses to understand how to isolate gravity from all other interactions on a microscopic scale. Our main motivation is to explore the interface between quantum physics and gravity with new experimental platforms. Your future tasks: You will actively participate in research, teaching & administration. This means: You are involved in a specific and well-funded research project, here focused on exploring fundamentals and applications of quantum entanglement in levitated solid-state platforms. The Computing Religious Devotion project (CREDO; see https://www.levyna.cz/en/about-us/research/credo-project) is a five-year project (2024-2028) funded by the Czech Science Foundation and is based at Masaryk University (Brno, Czech Republic). The CREDO project develops a computational model of moral decision-making in which religious belief, consolidated through practice and institutional enforcement, forms strong cognitive priors that bias evidence accumulation and action selection during normative decisions. The empirical backbone of the project is a large-scale cross-cultural study spanning 20 societies and two religious traditions per site designed to establish how the beliefs, practices, and orthodoxy of distinct religious traditions translate into measurable differences in cognitive computations (to be launched in 2026). Specifically, the project aims to determine how religious priors shape the strength of ingroup cooperation and outgroup harm biases, and how exposure to interreligious conflict modulates the updating of those priors from incoming experiential evidence. The goal is a theoretically grounded, empirically validated model of how religious traditions shape the mind. The successful candidate will lead experimental testing of the predictions from the computational model of religious decision-making in cooperation with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Martin Lang and another postdoctoral researcher with skills in cognitive science of religion and cultural evolution. The main responsibility of the successful candidate will be to work with large-scale behavioural datasets from 20 field sites, coordinating data quality and model fitting across a highly diverse sample, analyse the data and report them in a scientific paper. The successful candidate will also work in a fully equipped lab (EEG, fNIRS, BIOPAC) where they can design and test their own studies on the topic of normative decision-making. The candidate will be given significant responsibility and autonomy while also benefiting from the mentorship of the PI, playing a crucial role in forming the CREDO project as well as future research areas for the whole lab. MAIN JOB CONTENT Framework Collaborating with the project team (PI, 2 postdocs, 2 Phd students) to design and execute laboratory studies and especially a cross cultural study investigating computations underlying moral decision-making. Fitting computational models (e.g., drift-diffusion, reinforcement learning) to empirical data. Statistical analysis. Writing research articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Presenting findings at conferences and research seminars. WE REQUEST Professional education, qualifications and experience Ph.D. (or near completion) in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, or a related field. At least one first-author publication (pre-prints are eligible). Language skills knowledge of English language at B2 level (condition) Requirements related to job content  Competence in designing and executing behavioural/neuroscientific experiments. Competence in formal modelling of cognitive processes. Fluent in statistical code in either R, Python, or Matlab.
