As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry funded research project where you will be part of the research team to develop advanced Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) scanning technologies. Job Responsibilities Participate in research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: i. Conduct comprehensive literature review on NQR technology, including design approaches, scanning methods, signal processing techniques, and comparison with alternative detection technologies. ii. Support design and development of NQR prototype, including system architecture, component selection, and experimental setup. iii. Conduct lab and site tests to evaluate the performance of NQR prototype. iv. Generate design documents and test documents at every stage of development until the final prototype. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.  Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements Has a bachelor’s degree in Electronics; Specialization in RF/Microwave or Digital Signal Processing (DSP) is preferred. Has solid knowledge of electronics, including circuit design, PCB layout, and hardware troubleshooting. Has relevant competence in the areas of Radio Frequency design and measurement; Familiarity with high-power amplifier systems is a plus. Has relevant experience in the areas of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) design and implementation is a plus. Experience in electromagnetic simulation using CST Studio Suite and circuit simulation with PSpice, LTspice, or equivalent is an advantage. Experience with developing software for instrument control and data acquisition using LabVIEW is helpful. Key Competencies Strong experimental skills and theoretical knowledge in electronic circuits, and RF or DSP design, with the ability to apply hands-on prototyping and system development. Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university. The Doctoral School Computer Science provides the option of performance-based contract extensions (up to 6 months) to doctoral students who previously had a position as university assistant (prae doc) or as third-party funded researcher (prae doc) at the University of Vienna. This completion contract is meant to support a high-qualified DoCS fellow in the final phase of the doctoral studies. The successful applicant will get a contract as university assistant (prae doc) and will be working in the research group Data Mining and Machine Learning at the Faculty of Computer Science. Your future tasks: You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means: Your main task is to complete and to submit your dissertation. You meet and consult with your supervisor(s) on a regular basis in order to priorities your tasks and get the necessary support to complete your dissertation successfully in time. You participate in your department's and the Doctoral School activities and workshops. You participate in research projects and research studies. You participate in creating publications, academic articles, and  presentations. You participate in conferences and publish research results in peer-reviewed journals. Research Fellow - Active Travel to School - Surrey County Council

The role We are looking for a full-time researcher for a fixed term contract running until 31st March 2027. This post is for an embedded researcher who will be based at the University of Surrey (Environmental Psychology Research Group) and will work with, and for, the Surrey County Council (SCC) Safer Travel Team and the Surrey HDRC2 Team (Health Determinants Research Collaboration). The post’s focus will centre on a programme of work (please see accompanying details) consisting of separate projects that together share the aim of increasing Active Travel To School (ATTS1) amongst Surrey’s schools. The programme of work will commence with supporting Phase Two of the “Understanding Effectiveness & Encouraging Excellence in School Travel Planning” project, following the successful completion of Phase One. The programme of work will continue with the completion of a four-year longitudinal study that identifies school travel behaviours and their underlying motivations – the “SCC Annual School Travel Survey”. Other work includes further piloting of the STEP Tool (School Travel Effectiveness of Planning) developed in Phase One, the dissemination of findings from the SCC Annual School Travel Survey, and an exploratory audit of data collection across Surrey’s schools that employ “Hands Up Surveys” as a means of measuring changes in school travel. About you You must have a degree (MSc/PhD) and experience/interest in research focusing on understanding and changing behaviour. Experience in working in an applied research settings is highly desirable. Good communication and organisation skills are key, alongside adaptable project management skills. Skills and experience of working with quantitative survey data is important, and knowledge of qualitative methods an advantage. You will be working with the SCC teams at Surrey to support the analysis of existing data, to develop and project manage additional research, to analyse new data, and to report and present findings to a wide audience. This work has already been presented at a national convention in 2025 and the ambition is to further disseminate findings via future conference and publication activity. You will be based at the EPRG at Surrey but will work closely with SCC teams. You will be working on the various project activities for a period running to 31st March 2027 (full time). The Faculty of Law invites applications for a fixed term employment contract for a postdoctoral researcher from 01.08.2026 to 31.7.2028, funded by the Research Council of Finland. The position is a fixed-term contract for 2 years, with a possibility for a 1-year extension. The postdoctoral researcher will develop their own research in relation to international law and transformation in the global economy, associated with Dr. René Urueña’s professorship in international law. This work will include: developing single-authored peer-reviewed journal articles and co-authoring and/or editing academic work with the project PI and collaborators undertaking research in law, history, science and technology studies, and other relevant disciplines organizing and participating in international conference panels participating in the organization of workshops and seminars/conferences public outreach activities teaching/co-teaching and supervision of undergraduate students contributing to the research community within the Faculty of Law Requirements for the position and assessment of qualifications According to the Regulations of the University of Helsinki, an appointee to the position of postdoctoral researcher shall hold a relevant doctoral degree and have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work as well as the teaching skills necessary for the position. PhD diploma is to be acquired by the first day of employment. The working language is English. The period following the completion of doctoral degree must not exceed five years, excluding family leave and equivalent periods of absence. To fulfil the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to live in Helsinki, be physically present on a regular basis and participate actively in the research and teaching activities of the research project. Postdoctoral researchers have a teaching load of about 10%, corresponding roughly with one course of teaching. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The annual gross salary is approx. €46,000 - €48,000.
