About the role  This role presents a fantastic opportunity for an individual looking to develop a career in higher education or within a research-led environment. As a Senior Postgraduate Research Officer, you will provide essential administrative support to postgraduate researchers as they progress through their PhD studies, helping to ensure the effective management and delivery of research degree programmes. The position is wide-ranging, involving responsibility for various administrative processes across the student journey – from pre-enrolment and induction through registration, progression, and graduation. You will work with a range of university systems, including student record databases, virtual learning environments, and financial reporting tools, applying best practice to maintain data accuracy and resolve issues as they arise. Collaboration is a key aspect of the role, as you will work across both the School of Education, Communication and Society, as well as the Policy Institute. You will engage with both academic and professional services colleagues within the faculty as well as with central teams such as Admissions Research Student Records, and the King’s Doctoral College. This is a part-time post (21 hours per week) and you will be offered an indefinite contract. The role operates on a hybrid basis, with time split between remote working and on-site attendance at our Waterloo campus (ECS) and Melbourne House (the Policy Institute). About you To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:  Essential criteria Strong IT proficiency with extensive experience using a range of software tools, including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel), and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems and databases. Excellent interpersonal abilities, with confidence in engaging effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels, and in developing productive working relationships across departments. Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to produce clear, accurate documentation and correspondence. Outstanding organisational skills, with the capacity to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple tasks efficiently to meet deadlines. Proven commitment to providing high-quality customer service, demonstrating clarity in communication and responsiveness to enquiries. Meticulous attention to detail, with a methodical approach and a strong focus on accuracy. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, working flexibly and using initiative and sound judgement when faced with competing demands. Experience in coordinating training sessions, workshops, or events. Desirable criteria Good numerical skills, with the ability to interpret and analyse data. Previous experience working within a Higher Education environment, particularly supporting postgraduate researchers, academics, or research staff. Familiarity with Higher Education systems, such as student record systems (e.g., SITS) or virtual learning environments (e.g., KEATS). About Us The post will be based at St Thomas’ Hospital in central London in the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences at King’s College London: https://www.kcl.ac.uk/bmeis . There is an unmatched infrastructure within the School to support cutting-edge translational research, including one of the UK’s only 7 Tesla MRI systems located inside a hospital environment, state-of-the-art engineering and physics laboratories, high-performance computing, and industry collaboration through the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering. About The Role Severe epilepsy has a devastating impact on the lives of patients and their families. For many patients’ medication is ineffective and surgery is the only curative treatment. However, surgery requires confident knowledge of the location of the epilepsy lesion (abnormal tissue whose aberrant electrical activity causes seizures). We are pioneering the use of Ultra-high field 7T MRI and AI based lesion detection to allow more patients to benefit from life-changing surgery. You will join a project team of post-doctoral scientists, Imaging physicists, Neurologists, Clinical Neurophysiologists and Neuro-Radiologists at KCL and Cambridge Universities and their partner hospitals to achieve this aim. You will be responsible for optimising data acquisition and processing through novel methodological development in either image acquisition, reconstruction or post-processing (e.g. AI-based lesion identification) under the primary direction of Prof David Carmichael. You will also ensure the delivery of high-quality data to the clinical research team to meet the clinical research objectives. This is a full time post (100% FTE), and you will be offered fixed term contract until 10th November 2029. About You You will be a technically gifted researcher establishing a strong academic track record.
