About L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University

ENU is located in Astana, the fast growing capital city of Kazakhstan, in the heart of Eurasia.

The 13 faculties of the university offer 167 degree programs. The programs are taught in Kazakh, Russian, English, Turkish, Chinese, French, German languages.

Postgraduate school includes 66 Master's degree programs and 32 PhD programs in Engineering, Natural Sciences, Art & Humanities Social Sciences Physical Sciences.

The duration for Master Degree – 1, 1,5 and 2 years. For PhD – 3 years.

ENU offers 34 double diploma programs in the areas of international relations, construction, philology, pedagogy, psychology and physics with top universities, including Moscow State University, People’s Friendship University of Russia, Shanghai University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, etc.

Since 2015 ENU was included in the State Industrial Innovative Program and it became base for training professionals for space technology industry and construction. Both programs are composed and offered jointly with Berlin Technische Universitat (Space technology) and Middle East Technical University (Construction).

The academic staff of the university comprises highly professional academics:  72% are members of research academies, candidates and doctors of science, Ph.D.’s, professors and associate professors, and visiting professors from universities-partners. Annually, ENU invites Presidents of States, Nobel Prize winners and imminent statesmen to deliver lectures to students.

ENU has adapted and actively promotes the Bologna principles of academic mobility among faculty and students. This open policy of integration into the world educational arena has enabled ENU to send its students abroad for study at leading universities and to host students from Europe, Asia and North America.  

ENU is a member of such programs as Erasmus+, Tempus, Mevlana, UGRAD, and the range of governmental  scholarship program (Korea, Japan, Germany, etc).

The main priority of the university is development of state-of-the-art scientific technologies, including alternative energy, biotechnology, information technology, nanotechnologies and space technologies. Here are some examples of the current projects:

  • The use of flora for the production of promising types of cosmetics and hepatoprotective drugs;
  • The development of the blood and water treatment technologies on the basis of track membranes (http://www.adjacentgovernment.co.uk/lg-edition-008/profile-addressing-worlds-water-shortage/22448/) ;
  • Development of alternative energy sources (heat pumps, navigation effects, bioenergy);
  • Development of new technologies for the production of precursors from local raw materials;
  • Manufacture of paints polymers;
  • Manufacturing of acetylene substitute;
  • Development bio-destructors for cleaning oil contaminated areas, etc.

The projects are financed by World Bank grants, grants of Kazakhstan government, private organizations, etc.

Research is carried out in 33 research divisions.  Last year there was Indian Kazakhstan Centre was opened equipped with Super computer PARAM.

The results of this research have been widely commercialized.

The scientific works of faculty members and researchers can be found in international journals indexed by Scopus and Thompson ReutersEurasian Mathematical Journal published in ENU was included in Scopus.  

ENU is a leading Kazakhstan university by quality of publication in highly cited papers (according to URAP, SciVal, etc).

ENU has engaged in educational and scientific projects with Cambridge University, Harvard University, Sussex University, Berlin Technical University, Middle East Technical University, University of Autonoma de Barcelona, etc. Jointly with scientists of Ben Gurion University of Negev the Faculty of Life Science has conducted Research project on plant molecular biology and technology.

ENU is oriented toward the development of entrepreneurship skills of talented students; thus, the Start-Up Zone was opened.

ENU provides a warm and supportive environment for everyone to develop intellectually, spiritually, socially and physically.  The university offers a wide variety of activities allowing students to broaden their horizons and hone their social and leadership skills.  There are more than 30 different organizations and clubs for their participation in the areas of, art, athletics, politics, cheerleading, music, design, drama and choreography.

ENU alumni significantly contribute to the development of the Kazakhstan economy.
