Work that matters The Research Officer will contribute to high‑quality experimental research within the Breast and Prostate Cancer Research Program, including the execution of molecular and preclinical experiments and the generation, analysis, and preparation of research data. The role involves supporting data interpretation, documentation, and reporting for research outputs, as well as contributing to effective laboratory operations, governance, and maintenance of research records and databases. The team The Dame Roma Mitchell Cancer Research Laboratories (DRMCRL) is a Division of the Discipline of Medical Specialties which is within the School of Medicine. Experience To join our community and thrive in this role, you will likely have the following skills and experience:  Experience conducting molecular biology experiments in a wet laboratory setting, including genome‑wide or high‑throughput techniques (e.g. ChIP‑seq, RNA‑seq, ATAC‑seq or related assays). Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate experimental documentation and research data records, and to contribute to the analysis, interpretation, and presentation of research data for reports and publications. Experience in working with generalist software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel) and relevant specialist software for data analysis, visualisation, and data management. Strong organisational, communication and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment. A degree in Science, Biology or a related discipline with Honours, or equivalent relevant research experience. Desirable: Knowledge of hormone‑dependent cancer biology and/or breast and prostate cancer research. Experience in small animal handling and husbandry, including tissue collection, drug administration, anaesthesia, and minor procedures. Experience working within regulated research environments, including ethics, compliance, standard operating procedures and risk assessments. Experience working with patient-derived samples or translational research pipelines is advantageous. Demonstrated capability in both molecular biology and preclinical animal models will be highly regarded. Research Fellow in Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry

We are looking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher with experience and expertise in synthetic transition metal chemistry, to be based in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Southampton as part of the group of Prof. Gill Reid (G.Reid@soton.ac.uk). This postdoctoral fellowship is part of the EXPRESS (Exploiting Single Source Precursors for the Electrochemical Growth of Functional 1D and 2D Metal Dichalcogenide Semiconductors) Programme Grant recently announced by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). EXPRESS is a large (£10M) flagship, interdisciplinary research programme over 5-years. It is led jointly by the Universities of Southampton and Warwick, alongside several international and industrial partners, and brings together internationally leading teams from across chemistry, physics and electronic engineering. It aims to deliver a step-change in the understanding and control of electrochemical growth of high-quality mono/few-layer functional transition metal dichalcogenides TMDCs, combining precursor design and synthesis, electrochemistry, solution and surface computation, advanced characterisation and device integration. In addition to the essential disciplinary research skills, candidates should demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for collaborative working, the ability to communicate effectively across disciplines, and well-developed organisational skills. In this role your primary focus will be the synthesis, spectroscopic and structural characterisation of a range of new molecular complexes that contain the pre-assembled metal dichalcogenide (ME2) building block that forms the target TMDC. You will work in close collaboration with the electrochemistry experts who will investigate their effectiveness as single source precursors for the electrodeposition range of high quality semi-conducting and semi-metallic TMDCs. You will be required to be flexible and interact effectively with colleagues across the wider EXPRESS consortium to fulfil the scientific goals of the Programme. The position is offered for 24 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for up to 3 further years. Our goal is to translate basic and clinical neuroscience discoveries into new therapies and clinical applications that improve health and well-being.
