The School of Engineering invites applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the University of Southampton. The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research in the dynamics of lattice-based mechanical metamaterials, under the mentorship of leading experts, aligned with one of the following priority research areas: Design of multi-functional mechanical metamaterials Dynamic and wave propagation analysis of smart structures and lattices Experimental characterization of dynamic metamaterials The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural dynamics, wave propagation, smart structures, or mechanical metamaterials, with the ability to contribute across computational and experimental investigations. During the project, you will develop an independent research programme within the designated area while working with appropriate guidance, support, and supervision. You will collaborate within an interdisciplinary team, engage with industrial partners, and actively seek opportunities to translate research outcomes for wider impact. You will be expected to publish in high-quality journals and present at leading conferences, contributing to the visibility and influence of the research. You will also participate in relevant academic forums and training activities to build advanced research skills and professional networks. In addition, you will contribute to the wider university research environment through activities such as seminars, workshops, and early career researcher forums, and support knowledge-sharing with project stakeholders. The initial appointment is for one year, with the potential for continuation based on the progression of the project and the availability of funding. The Fellow will undertake research in collaboration with relevant industrial partners under the supervision of the award holder (Dr Tanmoy Mukhopadhyay). They are expected to contribute, where appropriate, to leadership, teaching, management and engagement activities linked to the project’s delivery and impact. Your work could touch pioneering developments in many different sectors including clean energy and sustainability, marine, bio-engineering, chemicals and materials, electronics and computer science. You will: Work on a portfolio of commercialisation projects to further increase the University’s impact, including Intellectual Property (IP) income generated Help manage relationships with key academic staff to understand their research expertise and identify new innovation and commercialisation opportunities Use your strong organisational and inter-personal skills to succeed in large, collaborative teams. You Previous commercial experience is essential for this role, along with the ability to evaluate the commercial potential of scientific concepts and a sound knowledge of intellectual property issues in a research environment. Enhancing the University’s commercialisation portfolio through additional licensing activity or helping drive the creation of new University spinout companies is an expectation of this role. We will help you build further networks with industry partners and investors, along with other key external regional stakeholders. Appointment Type: Full-time, continuing position Location: Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde) The Role The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences is seeking an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander academic to lead the continuing development, refinement, coordination and delivery of aspects of teaching and learning related to the history, culture, traditional/contemporary knowledges and health of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Faculty's courses in the School of Health Sciences and Nursing. The focus will be to broaden existing work underpinned by the key themes of the Faculty's Indigenous Health Curriculum, to strengthen Indigenous education. Themes include: learning Indigenous cultural awareness, respect, and cultural responsiveness in interactions with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, understanding key aspects of history and culture and their connection to current health problems affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, strength-based knowledge and communication as important counters to problem-based perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and peoples, Aboriginal perspectives on health and healing, and what can be learnt from Aboriginal approaches, partnership and engagement approaches that focus on mutually beneficial partnerships which support self-determined change within community, through co-design. This role will also work with colleagues in the School and Faculty to strengthen First Nations education - including but not limited to the Academic Director First Nations Health, FMHHS, other First Nations academics in the School & Faculty, and Walanga Muru. This work will include the development of connections and partnerships for community engagement and Indigenous clinical experiences for students in our courses. The role would also support alignment of existing learning and teaching with, and implementation of, Mudang Dali - the University's Indigenous Connected Curriculum Framework. Opportunities for completing higher degree research studies whilst working in the role will be considered. About You You will be a highly motivated person with a passion for education in First Nations culture, history traditional/ contemporary knowledges and health. You have previous academic experience, and you have worked in health or a health-related role, such as an Aboriginal health worker, an Aboriginal Liaison Officer, an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, or other clinician roles in the field. You have experience in developing, teaching and leading aspects of curricula within a higher education setting.
