Kabarak University was set up by Daniel Arap Moi, previous president of Kenya in 2002. His son Gideon, previously pro-chancellor and already an honorary graduate, succeeded him as chancellor.
The university is located in the city of Nakuru, Kenya. 
Faculties include business and economics, education, humanities and social sciences, medicine and health sciences, law, music and media, pharmacy, science, engineering and technology, and the Institute of Postgraduate Studies. 
The university offers a range of sports clubs for students to get involved with including football, basketball, netball and volleyball. 
The main campus is a 240 hectare former farm, while a new city campus was opened in 2022 to replace the previous city campus.

Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is seeking a highly qualified Full-time Lecturer in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in this field or other closely related fields and have a strong background in research and practice. The successful candidate will become part of an international network of universities and research institutes.

Teaching Responsibilities

In the role of a lecturer, the successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) program. The expected workload for the in-class lecture conduction is 8 academic hours per week, at least 240 academic hours per year (1 academic hour equals 45 minutes).

Teaching should reflect current research methods and results, and comprises lectures on the following modules:


	Introduction to Programming (30 AH)
	Object-Oriented Programming (60AH)
	Machine Learning (45AH)
	Operating Systems (45AH)
	Computer Architecture (60AH)


The named courses are subject to change on the realistic needs of the programs and joint agreement between the lecturer, relevant Academic Coordinators, and Dean/Vice Dean in charge of teaching. Courses may require conducting relevant laboratory activities and/or advising student projects.

The holder of this job is also responsible for supervising bachelor's and master's theses and mentoring Ph.D. students.

Research Responsibilities

As a faculty member of a research-oriented university, the successful candidate is expected to significantly contribute to the scientific profile of VGU through innovation. This includes and is not limited to comprehensive activities in basic research as well as applied research in the fields of AI, machine learning, computer systems, intelligent computing, data science, computer vision, and natural language processing. The ability to apply and generate externally funded research projects is highly desirable.

Administrative responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the ECE program by participating in administrative, marketing, and other public activities of the program in consultation with Academic Coordinator of the study program and German partner universities. He or she is also expected to contribute actively to the academic self-administration of the Faculty of Engineering and the university by being willing to stand for election to the Faculty Council, Academic Senate, and/or other bodies.

Qualification

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science or a closely related field, preferably from a well-known international university. Other requirements include:


	An outstanding academic record with a focus on computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer systems, software engineering, data science, or other areas closely related to it;
	Knowledge in programming, software development, machine learning, operating systems, computer architecture, algorithms and data structures, and modern AI frameworks.



	Strong track record of successful research activities and publications in international and peer-reviewed journals in the related area
	Proven teaching experience with strong self-motivation combined with a passion for teaching and research



	Experience in industry is of advantage
	Proven excellent English proficiency:


Candidates who are from non-native English-speaking countries should include one of the following valid English proficiency certificates; IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 548(PBT), TOEFL 84 (iBT), TOEFL 212 (CBT), CEFR level B2 or Aptis level C1 at the time of application submission. What We Offer

The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a cutting-edge interdisciplinary project. In this role, you will deeply understand the physics and operation of cryogenic scanning transmission electron (cryoSTEM) microscopes, and apply this understanding to design the architecture of entirely new foundation models, directly advancing the frontier of computational biology and machine learning. You will also implement parallel systems capable of training such models across large GPU clusters on cryoSTEM datasets in the multi-terabyte range. This position plays a pivotal role in supporting ongoing, high-impact research programs within our lab.

The successful candidate will be working under the joint guidance of two experts in computational microscopy and machine learning systems, blending expertise in advanced bioimage informatics and parallel computing:


	Dr. Min Xu – Affiliated Associate Professor of Computer Vision, MBZUAI & Associate Professor, Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Xu directs a dynamic research laboratory focused on computational biology, bioimage informatics, and structural biology. His core scientific research uses computer vision to pioneer new methods for 3D cellular structure analysis and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET).
	Dr. Qirong Ho – Assistant Professor of Machine Learning and Computer Science, MBZUAI. Dr. Ho specializes in distributed machine learning and systems architecture. His expertise drives the design of robust, parallelized systems required to scale massive biomedical imaging models efficiently over distributed GPU environments.


Key Responsibilities


	Understand CryoSTEM Microscopy: Become deeply familiar with the physics and operation of state-of-the-art cryoSTEM microscopes.
	Design Foundation Models: Create new model architectures for cryoSTEM data, which will be informed by the strengths and limitations of cryoSTEM microscopes and their data pipeline. These foundation models will be used to improve the operation of cryoSTEM microscopes when applied to biological samples.
	Parallel Model Training: Deploy parallel computing systems for training large-scale cryoSTEM foundation models.
	Project Leadership: Manage complex research sub-projects and ensure research milestones are met.
	Mentorship: Guide and mentor graduate students and junior researchers within the lab.
	Academic Output: Author high-impact publications and produce other key deliverables to share findings with the broader scientific community.

Qualifications
