Kabarak University was set up by Daniel Arap Moi, previous president of Kenya in 2002. His son Gideon, previously pro-chancellor and already an honorary graduate, succeeded him as chancellor.
The university is located in the city of Nakuru, Kenya.
Faculties include business and economics, education, humanities and social sciences, medicine and health sciences, law, music and media, pharmacy, science, engineering and technology, and the Institute of Postgraduate Studies.
The university offers a range of sports clubs for students to get involved with including football, basketball, netball and volleyball.
The main campus is a 240 hectare former farm, while a new city campus was opened in 2022 to replace the previous city campus.
