The Department of Geography at Durham University seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Human Geography who has expertise in the field of Health Geography that will complement and extend our current work in our Geographies of Life research cluster. We encourage applications in health geographies broadly defined. This could include but is not limited to: political economies and political ecologies of health; health and environment; more-than-human health geographies; feminist, queer and decolonial approaches to health; health and geohumanities; care economies; mental well being; disability; neurodiversity; and health inequalities and social justice. This is a specialist teaching-focused post, primarily centred on leading and delivering our apprenticeship work-based curriculum across Levels 4, 5 and 6 for both Quantity Surveying (QS) and Construction Management (CM) pathways. You will be the Module Leader for our work-based modules, these modules run alongside apprentices’ academic modules and are explicitly designed to help apprentices apply learning in the workplace, evidence Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs), and progress confidently towards gateway and End Point Assessment (EPA) / Apprenticeship Assessment (AA) readiness. The modules will support apprentices across the following standards delivered within our provision: Level 4: Construction Quantity Surveying Technician; Construction Site Supervisor Level 6: Chartered Surveyor (Quantity Surveying pathway); Construction Quantity Surveyor; Construction Site Manager Alongside your module leadership responsibilities, you will also hold a defined tripartite caseload as an Academic Liaison Tutor, supporting apprentices and employers through on-programme progress reviews (apprentice–employer–university) to monitor progress, agree actions, and ensure workplace activity aligns with module and programme requirements. The School of Medical Sciences (SoMS) brings together seven multidisciplinary research themes that reflect the strength, diversity, and depth of its expertise. SoMS research has a strong local and global impact, supported by over $60M in annual funding. SoMS contributes teaching to a range of programs, including Science, Medical Science, and professional degrees such as the Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Dentistry. This position sits within the Neuroscience research theme, which focuses on understanding the structure and function of the nervous system and the mechanisms underlying neurological disorders. Our research integrates cellular and molecular biology, genomics, neuroimaging, and anatomical, physiological, and pharmacological approaches in human and animal models. Our goal is to translate basic and clinical neuroscience discoveries into new therapies and clinical applications that improve health and well-being. Key focus areas include neurodevelopmental, neurocognitive, and neuropsychiatric disorders, movement disorders, neuroinflammatory conditions, headache, pain, and spinal cord injury.
