Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology is a postgraduate university in the city of Nomi in Ishikawa Prefecture, to the south of Kanazawa City. The university was established in 1990, in the centre of Ishikawa Science Park, to offer students a selection of programs for advanced research and development in science and technology. Today the university has multiple satellite campuses across Shinagawa and Tokyo and satellite lectures in Kanazawa City and Toyama City. There are several research departments including the Graduate School of Information Science, the Graduate School of Materials Science and the Graduate School of Knowledge Science. There are nine core research areas on offer which include: human life design area, knowledge management, security and networks, intelligence robotics, entertainment technology, energy and environment, materials chemistry, applied physics and bio-science and biotechnology. Each school offers MSc programmes, which typically take two to three years to complete. There are also PhD programmes on offer which take three years. There are plenty of facilities on site including eight student accommodation blocks along with a cafeteria offering a seasonal menu. Students at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology can also take part in the borrowing scheme, in which a variety of items can be borrowed from the student welfare section in the Student Affairs Department. This includes a range of equipment like camping equipment including tents and sports equipment including snowboarding kit, mountain hiking gear and digital tools like camcorders.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue an individual area of ​​specialization. Our group focuses on ambitious targeted organic synthesis to develop functional organic architectures with tailored properties, enabling the application in real-world technologies with an interest in solar-energy conversion. As a Post-doctoral fellow in the Bonifazi group, you will have the opportunity to work at the intersection of organic synthesis, physical organic chemistry, and cutting-edge applications in photosynthesis, fostering collaborations with both academic and industrial partners, and be part of an international team. Your personal sphere of play: The successful candidate will join a dynamic international research environment dedicated to developing functional molecular architectures for light harvesting, photocatalysis, electrosynthesis, and optoelectronic applications. The research activities will focus on the design and synthesis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heteroatom-doped graphenoid systems through the development of new synthetic methodologies based on radical annulation strategies, photocatalytic transformations, and electrosynthetic approaches. These molecular platforms will be engineered as next-generation functional materials for applications in optoelectronics, molecular energy conversion, and light-responsive technologies. The project combines advanced targeted organic synthesis, with particular emphasis on the discovery of innovative synthetic methodologies for the controlled construction of extended π-conjugated systems. Special attention will be devoted to developing radical-mediated annulation reactions that enable the rapid and modular synthesis of structurally defined PAHs, nanographenes, and molecular semiconductors with tailored electronic and photophysical properties. The employment duration is 3 years. Your future tasks: The selected candidate will work on the preparation and characterization of sophisticated molecular architectures using modern synthetic methodologies, including transition-metal catalysis and radical-mediated transformations, and multistep organic synthesis. The research program further aims to establish structure, property relationships governing the electronic, photophysical, and charge-transport properties of these materials, enabling their integration into emerging optoelectronic and energy-related applications. The position, therefore, offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface of synthetic organic chemistry, radical chemistry, molecular materials, and optoelectronics within a highly collaborative and internationally visible research framework. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to: Participate in international publications/ academic articles and presentations. ERC-funded Postdoctoral Researcher Positions in Mathematical Inverse Problems at the University of Helsinki Applications are invited for two postdoctoral researchers in mathematical inverse problems at the University of Helsinki. The position will be funded by the ERC advanced grant project InversePDE - Geometric Methods in Inverse Problems for Partial Differential Equations and the Centre of Excellence on Inverse Modelling and Imaging, led by Professor Matti Lassas. Position description The postdoctoral positions are for around two years (ending in November 2028) with a possible extension to a 3rd year. Starting date may be between August 1, 2026-January 1, 2027. The positions have a 6-month trial period at the beginning of the employment. The InversePDE project studies inverse problems for partial differential equations (PDEs) and geometric inverse problems. A typical inverse problem is the determination of the coefficient functions of a PDE from indirect data. The project aims to obtain unique solvability and stability results for inverse problems and to develop solution algorithms for these problems that are based on machine learning. The project will study inverse problems for linear and non-linear hyperbolic and elliptic PDEs by applying analysis, differential geometry, microlocal analysis, and probabilistic methods. The project will also combine methods of machine learning, in particular neural networks, and manifold learning techniques, with the mathematical theory of inverse problems to invent new algorithms that are rigorously guaranteed to work. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are a necessity in the position.
