The Natural Resources Institute (NRI – https://www.nri.org/) of the University of Greenwich carries out specialised research, teaching, training and consultancy with a focus on food, agriculture, environment and sustainable livelihoods. NRI’s work is globally respected and has won many awards including a recent Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education. The Institute is located at the University’s vibrant Medway Campus in Chatham Maritime, Kent.

NRI performs extensive research in Agronomy, Chemical Ecology, Entomology, Molecular Biology, Pest Behaviour, Plant Pathology, Vector Borne Disease and Weed Biology. This work takes place in the Agriculture, Health and Environment Department (AHED, https://www.nri.org/about/organisation-and-people/agriculture-health-and-environment-department).

NRI is looking to appoint a Laboratory Technical Coordinator to support and contribute to research projects, as well as NRI’s activities related in these areas. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will coordinate space availability and maintain the laboratories, controlled environments, and greenhouse facilities in compliance with ISO 9001:2015, industry standards and quarantine regulations. The role will also provide technical support whilst adhering to correct procedures and ensuring a safe working environment. Working as part of a small team, the post holder will facilitate the successful delivery of research projects and laboratory and field teaching activities.

Strong team leadership skills, a proven track record in project management, physically able to do heavy lifting and excellent communication abilities are essential. The successful candidate may have experience of teaching in a higher education environment, some experience of working in the agricultural sector and a track record in relevant research and/or enterprise activities. As a university assistant prae doc at the Institute for Romance Studies, you will be involved in reserach and teaching in the work area of Univ. Prof. Dr. Martha Guzmán. The focus of research is on Spanish linguistics.

About the position

This position coordinates the school administration team to ensure that the teaching and research needs of the various disciplines and research groups are met efficiently and effectively. The primary responsibilities of this position are to develop, implement and maintain School administrative procedures and ensure team members prioritise work according to business needs and undertake tasks and assignments with excellent attention to detail and accuracy. It will involve working closely with the School Senior Manager to ensure effective distribution and management of the school’s resources and provide high-level advice, support and reporting on academic and administrative policies and procedures for staff, students, stakeholders and the public.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have


	An undergraduate degree in any area relevant to the position with at least 4 years subsequent experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
	Excellent interpersonal skills, especially the capacity to work collaboratively and cooperatively in small teams. 
	Demonstrated organisation and problem-solving skills, with an ability to manage several different projects concurrently. 
	Demonstrated high level of self-motivation and personal management skills. 
	Proven ability to focus on objectives rather than procedures and precedents. 
	Demonstrated ability to form a detailed knowledge of academic and administrative policies and the interrelationships between a range of policies and activities. 
	Ability to apply theoretical knowledge or management or policy expertise to bring together diverse and sometimes conflicting information to solve problems. 
	Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders to achieve stated outcomes.

The advertised position is situated within the Advertising & Media Psychology Research Group, led by Professor Jörg Matthes. The Advertising & Media Psychology Research Group deals with the impact of modern media environments on people's thinking, behavior, and opinions, using both quantitative as well as qualitative methods to conduct their research.

	You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
	The signing of a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months of employment is expected.

	You have obtained a completed MA / Magister degree in Communication Science or a related discipline.
	You have in-depth knowledge of methods of empirical social research, especially quantitative methods and statistical data analysis.

The Campus Kitchen is the University of Southampton’s in house catering service. We facilitate a multitude of services across the University to include the provision of food in catered halls, retail catering outlets across all campuses, a delivered catering service and catering for all hospitality requirements across our campuses. Our aim is to deliver a five-star food service, catering for a wide range of needs and requirements and enhancing the experience for staff, students and visitors on campus.

The role

You will be working alongside the catering management team to ensure high levels of customer service are delivered at all times and teams are operating in accordance with set standard operating procedures. You will be responsible for the day to day running of your allocated retail sites and for facilitating the hospitality and delivered catering provision for a wide variety of conferences and events.

The working hours are on a full-time basis. You will need to be flexible in terms of working hours which will include regular evenings and occasional weekends as part of the working week, rota patterns are on a 5 days out of 7 basis. As part of the role you will be required to travel between campuses to oversee operations as required.

Additional working benefits include time off over the Easter and Christmas period due to University Closure days, bank holidays and a 35 hour working week.

About you
You will be a highly motivated, proactive and organised individual, capable of multi-tasking with the ability to prioritise a busy workload. Experience in hospitality and catering within a management role is essential.
