Islamic Azad University, Shahr-e-Qods branch began teaching at a temporary campus in 1998. It was then officially established at its current site in the Iranian capital of Tehran in 2001.
It is a vast university, educating more than 35,000 students on a 39-acre campus. Undergraduate and postgraduate students can choose from more than 300 degree courses, spread across four faculties: engineering; agriculture; humanities and social sciences; and basic sciences.
A nearby science and research campus was established in 2011, and most of the admin offices and postgraduate classes subsequently relocated there.
The agriculture faculty has access to 12 acres of gardening and agricultural land. The campus also includes four sports complexes, offering activities including table tennis, body-building, karate, volleyball and chess.
The campus also has its own mosque.
