The UK Illicit Project is an NIHR funded 14-month pilot RCT of The Illicit Project-UK a school-based universal drug prevention and harm reduction intervention for older adolescents. The research follows on from an earlier feasibility study funded under the government's Innovation Fund to Reduce Demand for Illicit Substances.  It is a collaboration between Liverpool John Moores University, Stirling University, the Matilda Centre at the University of Sydney, the University of Liverpool, and Queens University, Belfast. Work includes working with the PI and Co-Is to lead a pilot RCT for delivery in the UK in collaboration with young people and educational professionals; recruiting schools and liaising with school staff; designing methodology, undertaking and analysing surveys and qualitative work with intervention recipients; contributing to project management and reporting; and working on preparations for follow-up funding.   In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies. You will be the University's expert on town planning, and landlord and tenant matters, and space management. You will be required to provide clear leadership, guidance and advice, in the development of the wider strategic vision on the University's long-term approach to town planning and specific tactical approach to particular developments requiring planning permission. You will also be required to provide strategic leadership and guidance in relation to space management within the University. About us The role is located within the Addictions Department, Institute of Psychiatry Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN) at Kings’ College London (KCL). The Addictions Department has connections across the IoPPN and across clinical practice within the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and its extensive addiction treatment services and wider mental healthcare provision with additional connections with King's College Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas's through the Kings Health Partners Academic Health Science Centre. About the role The role is as a part time research fellow working within the the STADi-HuM study team: STADi-HuM: The interrelationship between receipt of Specialist Treatment for problematic Alcohol or Drug use, Hospitalisation and Mortality in England: A national record linkage and clinical study. The post holder will hold a doctoral degree or equivalent in an addiction related topic and need to have expertise in working with data from the National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS), working with government and expertise in quantitative prediction modelling techniques. The post holder will be responsible for multiple study components. These include contribution to systematic reviewing of the existing literature, development of patient and public involvement and engagement pathways, qualitative interviewing and liaison with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) Office of Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID). The post holder will work closely with clinical colleagues in the South London and the Maudsley NHS Foundation trust to strengthen links between clinical practice and research. The post holder will have the opportunity to undertake bespoke methodological training courses and attend international conferences alongside opportunities to publish peer-reviewed articles, contribute to the teaching and learning programmes in the department, and gain additional development opportunities including supervision of postgraduate research students. The post holder will be supported to seek and identify additional sources of funding, contribute to the process of securing funds, manage and monitor research budgets with support for future career planning. This is a part time post (3 days / 21 hours per week), and will be offered an a fixed term contract for 2 years from 1st April 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter) Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development.
