Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is seeking to appoint a permanent, full-time Pūkenga/Pūkenga Matua - Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Construction within Te Wāhanga Waihanga-Hoahoa - Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation. This position reports to the Tumuaki - Head of Te Kura Waihanga - School of Architecture and is located at Te Aro Campus. Key responsibilities: Academically rigorous teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across key aspects of the construction project lifecycle. We welcome applicants with expertise in one or more areas of:  Construction project management, planning, programming, and scheduling. Risk management, contract administration, procurement, and commercial construction management. Building surveying, with a focus on weathertightness, regulatory compliance, building condition assessment, and performance. Building services, including mechanical, environmental, or building systems expertise. Structures, structural engineering, or the integration of structural knowledge within construction education. Māori land development, papakāinga housing, and collaborative work with iwi, hapū, Māori landowners, and communities. We are now looking for a professor to lead ship hydrodynamics field at Aalto University’s Marine and Arctic Technology group. In this position you will have a chance to make an impact by changing the way the field is defined in terms of research and education in the era of increasing computational resources and data, sustainability goals, and design of previously unseen ship and ship system concepts. The research within the position focuses especially on understanding, predicting, and controlling the complex, unsteady dynamic phenomena and hydrodynamic forces associated with the interactions of ships with the ocean environment. The position will contribute to hydrodynamics which equips our graduates for the future marine engineering paradigms, such as climate change and green transition. Your role and goals  Your role will be to develop and share expertise on understanding and managing ship motions and loads in real operating conditions throughout the lifecycle of a ship. This is essential for safer, more energy-efficient ships: Current design practices often rely on simplified assumptions that misrepresent the lifetime environmental loads, which affects the performance, structural safety, energy system sizing, and operability of the ship. Ideally, your research will integrate experiments, theory, and simulation in a physics-first manner, directly informing ship design and operations. We expect you to: Advance research to improve the prediction and performance of calm-water resistance, hydrodynamic loads, motions, and added resistance, using targeted experiments, full-scale operational data, and both high-fidelity and reduced-order models. Teaching will also cover participation to B.Sc. and M.Sc. level courses and thesis supervision at all levels. The Macroscopic Quantum Optics (MQO) Group and Quantum NanoOptomechanics and Forces (QNOF) Group at Aalto University jointly invites applications for an experimental postdoctoral position in quantum optomechanics with exciton-polaritons. Postdoctoral Researcher Research focus: The project aims to reach the quantum regime of optomechanics with polaritons by utilizing GaAs/AlAs-based microcavities with embedded quantum wells with applications in quantum transduction between microwave and optical frequencies. These unconventional optomechanical systems exhibit a unique "magic coincidence" of their phonon and polariton properties allowing for the simultaneous trapping of light and sound within the same high-Q cavity, and resulting in extremely high optomechanical interaction for the polaritons and mechanical modes in GHz range. The project is carried out in close collaboration with our partners providing access to complementary expertise and device know-how. Your role and goals The successful candidate is expected to lead the experimental effort with a team of PhD and master’s students and collaborate closely with theorists in the group. They will collaborate with our academic and industry partners worldwide. They expected to lead preparation of research manuscripts for publications in top-tier journals, coordinate submissions, and taking the role of corresponding author. Besides the expertise in experimental quantum optics, the candidate will acquire excellent training in grant writing and research leadership provided by Aalto University and at the MQO/QNOF group level by contributing to research management and funding applications within the joint team. Our team has a great record in supporting applications to prestigious national and international postdoc-level funding schemes such as the Magnus Ehrnrooth Foundation and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship.
