We are seeking a skilled Research Fellow with experience and expertise in bioinformatics. The research fellow will join a team funded through a NSW Health Translational Research grant that focuses on transforming infection management in immunosuppressed patients. This role will support the implementation of bait-capture-based targeted clinical metagenomics, applying cutting-edge sequencing and analytical pipelines to enable rapid, precise pathogen identification and antimicrobial resistance profiling. The successful candidate will contribute to developing and optimising bioinformatic and reporting workflows that enhance diagnostic accuracy and improve clinical decision-making in complex infectious disease settings. The Research Fellow applies and refines their expertise in research methodologies, design and delivery to contribute to the university's standing as a national leader in the discipline. working independently and as part of a research team, the role focuses on producing high-quality research outputs, fostering collaborations, and engaging in activities that contribute to research excellence, innovation and impact. Job Purpose: The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and deliver Food Technology and related laboratory sessions, practice modules, and applied learning activities. Mentor and guide students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead and execute innovation and applied research projects in collaboration with industry partners. Manage, maintain, and optimize laboratory facilities and equipment to support teaching, research, and industry projects. Undertake leadership or coordinator roles, as assigned by the Team Lead, in support of the university’s strategic goals. Uphold and enforce safety standards and practices in all laboratory operations. Job Requirements A good degree in Food Science and Technology or related disciplines such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Chemical Engineering. Master’s degree / PhD would be advantageous. At least 10 years of relevant industry experience with proven expertise in food product development and innovation, covering areas such as R&D, process scale-up, and regulatory compliance. Involvement in market introduction and commercialization of food products will be a strong advantage. Proven track record in working with industry partners, academia, or research institutes to drive food innovation. Experience contributing to or supporting industry or research funding projects and translating outcomes into practical applications is desired. Strong grounding in at least two or more food science domains such as food chemistry, food microbiology, food processing, sensory science, or food engineering. Willingness and ability to expand into adjacent domains as part of role development. Ability to design and deliver teaching and training materials for undergraduate and/or postgraduate modules, with emphasis on practical application. Experience in hands-on lab work, pilot plant operations, or technical training is desirable. While a formal teaching background is not mandatory, the candidate is expected to develop and acquire relevant teaching competencies as part of the role requirements. Proficient in analytical techniques for food characterization, e.g., chromatography, spectroscopy, rheology, texture analysis, or sensory profiling. Certification in food safety or quality management is advantageous.

The PhD project will focus on the design, analysis, and evaluation of the behavioural impacts of user-oriented traffic and mobility management, with particular attention to sustainability, safety, and efficiency in multimodal transport systems. The PhD project may focus on one or more of the following themes: Traffic modelling and multimodal transport simulation Travel behaviour and choice modelling Network optimization and algorithmic methods Machine learning and data-driven approaches for mobility analysis, prediction, or decision support Policy-oriented evaluation of traffic and mobility interventions Your experience and ambitions We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with strong analytical skills and a clear interest in transport systems, travel behaviour, and sustainable mobility. It is an interdisciplinary unit based in the Faculty of Social Science, offering Bachelor, MA, MPhil and PhD programmes. The forward-looking team of Gender Studies Programme is inviting applications for the post of Assistant Professor on substantiation (tenure) track to join from the academic year 2026-27 or as soon as possible. About EPrints Services As a result of our continued success, we are hiring into a Software Engineering / Customer Support role. We primarily develop and maintain Web-based repository services for a wide variety of both education and commercial organisations all over the World. At our core is an open source repository platform, EPrints, which provides a flexible way to configure operations concerning data capture, structure and presentation, and a range of services that allow content to be accessed in a variety of ways. We support our many customers by maintaining our own Linux based virtual hosting infrastructure. We are a well established small Enterprise team based in the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton. About You As part of the team, you will take responsibility for the development and support of customer focused projects, for both EPrints systems and more varied engineering activities. These typically relate to open access, open data, digital education, content management and systems integrations. All projects require some level of design, programming, testing, project management, and customer support. It is essential you have: Proven industrial experience and / or  PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Computer Science or related discipline. In addition, some knowledge of Linux as well as Web relevant technologies, for example XML, SQL, JavaScript and CSS is required. Experience in high level programming languages such as Python, PHP or Perl will be highly desirable.
