The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) IIT (ISM)), Dhanbad was established in 1926 to cater to the manpower needs of the coal and mineral industries. It was established by the British Indian Government to emulate the Royal School of Mines in London, with the aim of passing on British mining education. In recognition of its vital role in the service of mineral exploration and the mining sector, IIT (ISM) was granted autonomy in 1967 by the government of India. Today, IIT(ISM) includes 18 academic departments which cover engineering, applied sciences, humanities, and social sciences and management. To reflect the changes in academic profile of the university, in 2016 it was given status as an Indian Institute of Technology. Its name was changed from ISM Dhanbad into IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The campus houses the Geological Museum, the Seismic Observatory, a data Processing Laboratory, the Long Wall Mine Gallery and the Remote Sensing Laboratory. There are also residential facilities for all faculty staff and students, with seven hostels for boys and three for girls. IIT (ISM) is surrounded by mining offices such as the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research, the headquarters of DGMS, and the headquarters of Bharat Coking Coal Limited. Students can choose to do an extracurricular activity with the National Cadet Corps, the National Service Scheme, the National Sports Organisation, or yoga. IIT (ISM) has many notable scientists in its alumni, such as the earth scientists and seismologist, Harsh Gupta, who is known for his work on estimation of reservoir-induced earthquakes, and geoscientist Rabi Narayan Bastia, known for his contributions to the hydrocarbon explorations at Krishna Godovari Basin.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Advanced Magnetic and Electromagnetic Separation and Speciation of Metallic Minerals Benguerir-Jorf Lasfar The CBS department of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is launching a call for applications for a post-doctoral fellowship specializing in magnetic/electromagnetic separation in solid and liquid matrices. Applicants should have a thorough understanding of the principles of magnetic separation and magnetic phenomena, as well as expertise in experimental methods to study the interactions between magnetic fields and solid and liquid materials. Additionally, knowledge of the physical and chemical properties of materials, particularly their magnetism, is required. The postdoctoral fellow will join the CBS-IGSAC department where they will be responsible for participating in the conduct of a research program on the valorization of phosphate by-products and its derivatives. The focus will be on developing and executing studies on magnetic/electromagnetic techniques for the separation, concentration, recovery, or destruction of certain elements. Therefore, the chosen candidate will be expected to contribute to the performance of a wide range of scale-up studies of a magnetic and electromagnetic separation process to validate the selection of the appropriate design for treating, concentrating, and purifying the matrices under investigation. Job Description: The position is open to candidates with a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline from a recognized university. Applicants must demonstrate that their doctoral work and previous experience are related to one or more aspects of magnetic separation, particularly in the context of mineral processing or environmental applications. Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply: Experience in the separation/purification of industrial effluents, particularly with electromagnetic/magnetic technologies. Proven experience in extracting valuable substances through magnetic separation methods. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Fluency in English is a requirement. Candidate Criteria: A PhD, or equivalent, in applied chemistry, physics, materials science, or a relevant discipline with a focus on magnetic separation of metal(loid)s. Strong familiarity with the magnetic properties of metal(loid)s and minerals, demonstrating the capability to separate them from complex matrices. Expertise in metal(loid)s speciation and their physicochemical properties. Good Background in magnetic and electromagnetic separation techniques and the scale-up process. Prior experience in selectively separating metal(loid)s from low-grade ores or by-products. Planned Activities: Conduct scientific research within the project team. Train and supervise second- and third-year doctoral students to prepare them for their defense. Execute magnetic/electromagnetic separation experiments with precision and accuracy,  Utilize advanced methodologies and techniques to effectively separate target components from complex matrices using magnetic field. Monitor ongoing experiments and adjust settings as needed. Maintain high standards and quality in laboratory operations. Job Requirements: Comprehensive understanding of the principles of magnetic separation. Profound knowledge of magnetic phenomena and properties of magnetic materials. Previous experience in designing and conducting laboratory experiments to investigate the interactions between magnetic, electromagnetic fields and solid, liquid materials is essential. Competence in materials characterization. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret and analyze simulation and/or experiment results. Familiarity with safety protocols and quality control measures in the laboratory. Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a research team. Job Description CBS is looking for a post-doctoral fellow specializing in analytical chemistry, in particular the evaluation of trace elements in phosphate value chain. In terms of research, the candidate will reinforce the team of the CBS department. His/her experience and expertise should enable him/her to contribute and pursue research activities on industrial subjects relating to chemical phosphate manufacturing processes. The candidate will also participate in the supervision of internships, projects and practical work related to the above-mentioned scientific fields. He/she will play an active role in the life of the program, organizing seminars, workshops and conferences related to the chemical and Process Engineering stream. Knowledge of gas-phase product analysis using micro-GC and FTIR is also required, along with general experience in materials synthesis. The successful candidate will work on optimizing methods for nanofibers extraction from various types of biomass, focusing on the development of efficient, sustainable, and scalable processes. This role provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to advancing renewable materials research. Key duties: Design and execute experiments to optimize fractionation and extraction processes from diverse biomass sources. Investigate thermochemical, mechanical, enzymatic treatment methods or combination thereof to improve extraction efficiency and yield. Develop advanced pre-treatment techniques to enhance the extraction yield. Perform comprehensive kinetic and thermodynamic studies to understand and optimize the extraction processes. Investigate structure-property relationships to correlate the extraction process with the functional performance of nanofibers in various applications. Characterize the extracted cellulose fibers using analytical techniques such as FTIR, XRD, SEM, TGA, and others. Evaluate the environmental and economic aspects of the developed methods.
