Ilia State University is located in Tbilisi, Georgia and is the result of a merger between six different educational and research institutions. It was set up in 2006 and was the first university in Georgia to introduce the principles of a liberal education.
There are four schools within the university; Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Medicine, Faculty of Business, Technology and Education and School of Law. Each of the schools offer courses in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programmes. The institution offers approximately 50 bachelor's and 50 master's courses. The university also runs 25 research institutes, research centres and laboratories around the country.
The university has established relationships with universities from around the world including Columbia University, Kansas State University, University of Austria, University of Siena and University of Fribourg.
It is also part of of a number of associations and networks including the European Cooperation in Science and Technology, The European University Association and the Black Sea Universities Network.
