Ilia State University (ILIAUNI / ISU) is a leading research and educational institution in Georgia and the region. Located in Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, Iliauni was established in 2006 as a merger of six different institutions, each having a long history and a diverse institutional profile. Over the past 20 years the university has undergone remarkable growth and development. Its extensive research citations and references set it apart as unparalleled among all universities in the country. Currently, the University encompasses 4 faculties, 76 research centers and institutes spread across the country, an academic community of over 1400 professionals, and serves approximately 17000 students, with over 850 international students among them. 

Coupled with its highly qualified academic and administrative professionals and modernized research facilities in Tbilisi and in the regions of Georgia, ISU has become one of the most preferred choice universities for students and faculty members today.

ILIAUNI welcomes around 5,000 freshmen each year across all levels of higher education and is committed to supporting every student in reaching their full potential. RESEARCH PROFILE

The university operates on unique research and training grounds situated in Tbilisi and various regions of Georgia. Notable facilities include the  Institute of Botany and Herbarium, renowned as one of the world’s oldest and most extensive botanical documentation repositories, and the Bakuriani Alpine Botanical Garden. Moreover, the Institute of Earth Sciences and National Seismic Monitoring Centre endeavors to establish a seismic network covering Georgia's entire territory, ensuring continuous earthquake activity monitoring and real-time data transmission from existing stations. Further, the university possesses diverse marine facilities, such as the Marine Research Center based in the seaside village of Grigoleti, and alpine research facilities like the Stepantsminda Institute of Alpine Ecology. Additionally, the university owns a research vessel named "ST. FACULTIES & SCHOOLS

1. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences stands as one of Ilia State University's largest faculties, distinguished by its extensive academic staff, student body, and a wide array of training programs and courses. Offering 54 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degree programs in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts, the faculty provides opportunities for joint degrees, exemplified by the EMJM Program in Central and East European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies, along with several Ph.D. programs.

2. The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Medicine stands as a premier research and educational entity in Georgia and the region, specializing in natural sciences and medicine. Benefiting from an extensive material base utilized for both scientific research and practical skill development, the faculty seamlessly integrates research institutes and laboratories. The faculty offers double degree Master’s in Atmospheric and Near Spaces Sciences with French and German universities.

The School of Medicine offers English-medium programs catering to a diverse range of students. These programs include a single-step educational program tailored for certified medical practitioners, a master's program focused on public health and healthcare policy, doctoral programs in both medicine and public health, and a postgraduate residency program.

3. Established in 2018, the Faculty of Business, Technology, and Education stands as a vital educational unit within the university, comprising three schools: the Business School, the School of Technology, and the School of Education. These schools offer a diverse array of programs, among them double degree English-language Master's Program in Business Administration, offered in collaboration with the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. Additionally, the faculty delivers an American ABET-accredited (International) English-medium Bachelor program in Computer Engineering.

4. The School of Law, one of the foundational educational units of the university, implements programs rooted in the principles of academic and democratic freedom of choice.

ILIAUNI INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL “BLACK SEA AND CAUCASUS: DIVERSITY, CONFLICTS, AND NETWORKS

The summer school is designed to gather students from around the world for a fantastic international seasonal experience centered in Tbilisi, the main campus of Ilia State University, along with trips to regions of Georgia.

The summer school includes 2 Bachelor level academic courses: Black Sea and Caucasus: Diversity, Conflicts and Networks and a language course of student’s choice - Georgian, Ukrainian, or Russian. The program includes cultural and social events including field trips to historical and cultural sites in Tbilisi and the different parts of Georgia.

A 4-week ILIAUNI International Summer School runs from June 29 to July 26, 2026.
