Description The Centre for Interdisciplinary Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CIDSAI) at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a highly motivated Junior Research Scientist to work on topics in the theoretical foundations of data science and AI. The selected candidate will be part of the Foundations Cluster of CIDSAI and will collaborate closely with Professor Saurabh Ray, and Professor Pierre Youssef. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong mathematical background and expertise in one or more of the following areas: High-dimensional probability and concentration/functional inequalities Markov processes and stochastic analysis Theoretical analysis of neural networks and deep learning Foundations of reinforcement learning and bandit algorithms Mathematical and algorithmic perspectives on large language models Statistical learning theory and complexity analysis Automated theorem proving and formal methods Random matrix theory and its applications in modern AI systems The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal. Requirements: a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or computer science with evidence of strong mathematical and computational skills The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place.
