Henan University

Henan University was founded in 1912, in the ancient city of Kaifeng, one of the eight historical capitals of China. Today, Kaifeng is four and a half hours from Shanghai and around four hours from Beijing by bullet train.

The original campus has since been complemented by a second, more modern campus. The university website describes the old campus as “fragrant with flowers and green with grass and trees”, as well as “with carved beams and painted rafters, the buildings in traditional architecture”. By contrast, the modern campus is “grand, magnificent and spectacular”. 

Today, there are more than 30,000 students at Henan University – as well as three million books, of which 170,000 are thread-bound ancient writings. 

Students belong to one of 11 faculties: liberal arts, science, engineering, economics, management, law, philosophy, education, history, agriculture and medicine. 

There are more than 100 student clubs and societies, as well as events such as singing competitions, cultural salons, team sports and martial arts. Accommodation is in student dormitories.
