Doctoral Researchers in Molecular Medicine As part of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine, the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is recruiting 4–5 doctoral researchers in the FIMM-EMBL International PhD Programme, starting in August 2026. In this interdisciplinary programme, outstanding doctoral researchers are recruited at the institute level in the scope of the main research areas at FIMM. Through the FIMM-EMBL rotation system, doctoral researchers engage in projects with 2–3 different research groups at FIMM during a 6–9-month period before selecting a research group for their doctoral research. The program provides an exciting opportunity to explore and combine different research areas as well as to learn a variety of scientific skills and technologies while making connections within and beyond the institute. YOUR PROFILE Highly motivated with a second cycle academic degree (MSc, MD or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biotechnology, cell biology, computer science, genetics, medicine, or other related fields, obtained before the start of the position (August 2026). Strong analytical and quantitative skills with problem solving and troubleshooting aptitude. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an international team. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Top candidates will be selected and invited for two rounds of interviews with a selection committee in the late March and early May 2026. The candidates selected for the positions will be offered an initial contract for 18 months starting from mid-August 2026, during the first half of which they will engage in training through 2–3 research group rotations. Upon a successful review and selection of a research group after the rotational period, the initial contract will be extended up to a 4-year period. POST DOC POSITION IN BIODIVERSITY ECONOMICS The Department of Organismal and Evolutionary Biology and the Department of Economics at the University of Helsinki invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher in biodiversity science and/or environmental economics for a fixed term of 2-3 years with a possibility of continuation. There will be a trial period of six months in the beginning. The post doc position is part of a new collaborative effort between researchers at the Research Centre for Ecological Change (REC) and Environmental and resource economics group funded by Helsinki Life Science Institute. This interdisciplinary initiative includes professors Marjo Saastamoinen (biodiversity), Anna-Liisa Laine (biodiversity), Jarno Vanhatalo (statistics), Lassi Ahlvik (environmental economics) and Kari Hyytiäinen (environmental economics). There is some flexibility in the starting date, but the position can start as soon as possible and ideally spring 2026. We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to study the economic values derived from climate and land-use driven biodiversity changes, specifically among interacting species (e.g., prey-predator dynamics) and the resulting impacts on ecosystem functions and the services they provide. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and applying economic models to assess impacts of biodiversity change on ecosystem service provision. The biodiversity-ecosystem function relationships will be analysed via unique long-term observational datasets available at REC. The focus of the specific research questions will be tailored to align with the candidate's background and interests, ensuring a collaborative and engaging research experience. We seek candidates who have completed a PhD in ecological statistics or environmental economics or a related field, and have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Prior experience in have experience in valuation of ecosystem services is considered as a strength. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to conceive, execute and complete research projects, and to think independently and creatively are also required. The post docs will work as a part of a team at the Centre and excellent communication skills are required. Are you an experienced clinician who wishes to diversify into education? Here at the School of Veterinary Medicine, we have successfully established a high quality network of clinical practices to deliver a fully distributed model of work-place based clinical education. By extensively partnering with the profession, we have developed an authentic, relevant and student-centred approach to clinical veterinary education. Integral to this model are the Lecturers in Veterinary Clinical Practice (LVCPs), our team of clinical tutors who provide oversight of individual development and evaluation of final year students toward attainment of day-one competences and support practice-based trained clinical mentors in the delivery of our Intramural Rotation (IMR) module. This is achieved through regular and frequent practice visits to meet with clinical mentors and through the provision of one-to-one feedback and coaching of students. As well as overseeing the successful development of the students’ portfolio, the LVCP team also play a key role in the assessment of final year students. The LVCPs act as key university liaisons for the partner practices and will be expected to develop strong working relationships with practice staff. They provide pedagogical training of clinical mentors and contribute to the quality assurance of IMR delivery. The LVCPs are also personal tutors for students in 4th and 5th year of the curriculum, providing an important role in pastoral care of the students as they transition through the clinical years. We have an opening for a part time (0.6 FTE) LVCP in the small animal section of the existing team. About you We are looking for someone with experience in small animal clinical practice however additional experience working with other species would be beneficial as members of the small animal team do provide cross species cover when required. The successful appointee will be a UK registered (or eligible to register) veterinary surgeon and will be an experienced small animal or mixed practitioner. Candidates will have a flair for communicating with both undergraduates and practitioners and a passion for veterinary clinical education. Prior academic experience is not a prerequisite, but some teaching or clinical coaching experience is beneficial. Comprehensive educational training is provided during the induction process (including completion of graduate certificate in higher education). Due to the nature of the role, this post would ideally suit someone based in the Guildford area. There would be a requirement for travel to practice visits and other sites as necessary.
