The Health Sciences University of Hokkaido (HSUH) is a private university in the northern part of the island of Hokkaido in Japan, founded in 1974. There are approximately 3,500 students on two campuses in Tobetsu and Ainosato. The main campus is in the rich green hills of Tobetsu countryside, overlooking the Ishikari Plain. There is also a Sapporo Satellite Campus located near Sapporo Station. HSUH is comprised of five faculties and five graduate schools, including the school of pharmaceutical sciences, school of dentistry, school of nursing and social services, school of psychological sciences, and school of rehabilitation sciences, which was established four years ago. It also has a dental hygienist school affiliated with the school of dentistry. There is an exchange programme available in English for students of HSUH’s partner universities around the world, which include the University of Alberta in Canada, Taipei Medical University in Taiwan, Central South University in China and Far Eastern State Medical University in Russia. Facilities include HSUH Hospital, HSUH Dental Clinic, the Institute of Preventive Medical Science, the Center for Radioisotope Studies, the Center for Animal Experiments, the Center of Clinical and Developmental Psychology, the International Education and Exchange Center, the Center for Regional Partnership Promotion and the Cancer Prevention Institute. The Medicinal Botanic Garden contains more than 250 species of medicinal plants found growing naturally in the northern area of Hokkaido. The greenhouse contains 220 species of plants from around the world, including many rare plants used for medicinal purposes. The garden is open to the public.

The Position We now invite applications for appointment as Professor/Associate Professor in Developmental Psychology in the Faculty of Education.   Duties and Responsibilities The appointee will be closely affiliated with the Early Childhood Development and Education area.  He/She will be expected to develop and sustain an active and productive research programme, demonstrated by publications in prestigious outlets and awards of external funding, and contribute to leading the development of vibrant teaching programmes. The appointee will mentor and nurture the next generation of scholars and researchers, supervise research postgraduate students, engage in collaborative research, develop and maintain positive relations with relevant community outreach organizations, and assume high-level service/administrative responsibilities. Essential Requirements Applicants should possess (i) a Ph.D. degree in Developmental Psychology or a closely related field, with expertise in early language, cognitive, and/or social-emotional development, professional development of early years and primary school educators, the measurement of early childhood development and learning, the role of family, school, community, and global and technological contexts in early childhood development, or other related areas; (ii) a distinguished record of scholarship and research, including an established track record in publications and external grant funding; (iii) experience in advising students at various levels; (iv) outstanding academic leadership capabilities; (v) a strong commitment to mentoring early career researchers; and (vi) evidence of community engagement.  Preference will be given to those with experience in or commitment to working with cross-disciplinary research teams.  What We Offer The appointment will be made on a fixed-term full-time contract for 3 years initially, to commence on August 1, 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of the second three-year fixed-term contract. Outstanding candidates may be considered for appointment with tenure. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary. An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead our Built Environment Project team at the University and oversee the delivery of a variety of construction and refurbishment projects across our diverse estate. This is a high-profile position leading, directing and managing the capital project management team charged with the intelligent client-side management of the University’s (academic and residential) built environment. Role & Responsibilities: The post holder will be a key member of the Leadership and Management Teams within Estates and Facilities Management leading and contributing to the overall strategic, planning, and operational position required to ensure that the team delivers a professional built environment project management service to provide the physical environment and services for the benefit of the University community and is commensurate with the University’s corporate objectives and its mission.
