Hanze University of Applied Sciences (Hanze UAS or the Hanzehogeschool Groningen in Dutch) is the largest university of applied sciences in the northern Netherlands. Located in Groningen, it was founded in 1986 as the result of a merger of several institutes for professional education, the oldest of which was the Academy Minerva, founded in 1798. Hanze UAS offers bachelor and masters programmes in Dutch, English and German and works with several international partner institutes. It was the first university to found its own international business school in the Netherlands and the only large higher education institution in the country to feature an arts academy and conservatoire. As a university of applied sciences, students should expect to gain plenty of practical experience, through integrated internships and practical research. On both a regional and global scale, Hanze UAS is known for its strong links with industry and entrepreneurship. The student body is 27,000-strong, and from over 80 different nationalities. It has locations in Assen (the Hanze Institute of Technology), Leeuwarden (Pop Culture) and in Amsterdam (the Dance Academy), while the remaining 16 faculties are in the centre of Groningen. Most of these buildings are located on the super modern Zernike complex, which is a 15 minute bike ride away from the city centre. Groningen is one of the university’s greatest assets, as the city is the youngest and one of the most loved cities for students in Holland. It is the youngest city in the Netherlands, with half its citizens under 35 and a quarter of the population made up of students. The nightlife scene is constantly buzzing and it has an excellent, affordable range of sports, cultural and educational facilities.

About the project: Difficulties in swallowing or chewing affect millions worldwide, especially among the elderly. We are currently conducting a research project to develop transitional foods which can make a positive impact on the quality of life for those with swallowing difficulties.  This research position works closely with a multidisciplinary team of project investigators. We invite outstanding and talented candidates who are passionate about making a difference and have a strong desire to enhance their R&D competencies to apply. The primary role of this position is in the area of materials characterisation, focusing specifically on how foods break down due to oral forces and the effects of moisture and temperature. The work encompasses both experimental studies and modelling (finite element simulations). This position requires a strong aptitude in materials engineering, mechanics and data analysis. Key Responsibilities: Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Conduct materials testing to characterise the mechanical and dissolution behaviour of foods Develop models based on micromechanical and macroscopic properties Document, publish and present research findings Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop new herbicide compounds focusing on synthesis and characterizations of HPPD inhibitor herbicides. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. i. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: ii. Design and synthesize novel HPPD inhibitor compounds iii. Conduct laboratory experiments for the synthesis of target compounds, including purification and characterization using techniques such as NMR, MS, FTIR, GC and HPLC Optimize synthetic routes and troubleshoot any challenges encountered during synthesis Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Job Details This Research Engineer will contribute to an international joint project related to policy-making in urban planning and design, focusing on developing a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) framework and tool. The work will involve integrating results from GeoTOPSIS and/or VectorMCDA in QGIS, enhancing spatial decision support for blue–green infrastructure and ecosystem service evaluation. The Research Engineer will lead the software development and interface programming, working closely with the GIS Research Fellow and interdisciplinary project team members to create a user-friendly, scalable decision-support tool for planners and policymakers. As part of understanding the ecosystem services that are involved in Singapore, the successful candidate will also be expected to perform some field-based data collection during the duration of the project. Key Responsibilities Work closely with the PI, Co-PI, and research team to ensure timely completion of all project deliverables. Implement and enhance GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA algorithms within QGIS using Python or equivalent programming frameworks. Develop a user-friendly interface (QGIS plugin or web-based application) for decision-making and data visualization. Collaborate with the GIS Research Fellow to integrate ecosystem service layers and model outputs. Conduct tool testing, validation, and iterative refinement based on stakeholder feedback. Manage documentation, data pipelines, and version control. Support system deployment on a secure project server and ensure cross-platform interoperability. Assist in project management and support the team in facilitating and organizing workshops, stakeholder sessions, and policy dialogues. Be involved in regular field work data collection and to perform environmental and biodiversity surveys (fish, birds and insects) as part of a research team. To communicate in any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Job Requirements Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Geomatics, Environmental Informatics, or related fields. Strong programming skills in Python, R, or JavaScript for spatial analysis, interface development, or web applications. Experience in plugin or dashboard development (e.g., PyQGIS, Dash, Streamlit, or web-GIS frameworks). Familiarity with GIS concepts and geospatial data structures; experience with QGIS or ArcGIS will be an advantage. Ability to translate analytical models into intuitive, interactive user interfaces. Good teamwork, documentation, and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated and able to learn new tools and frameworks independently. Additional Note: While prior experience with GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA is not mandatory, it will be considered a strong advantage. On-the-job training will be provided to equip the candidate with necessary methods and integration workflows with ecosystem service models and spatial datasets. FoodPlant Pte Ltd Position: Technician If you accept this role, your work located will be at Senoko. Responsibilities: Provide support to ensure the facility functions effectively, while complying with the relevant legislation and statutory requirements. Manage equipment/ facility calibration and maintenance activities. Support in starting up utilities services timely in preparation for production operation. Ensure safety, cleanliness and order of the facility. Assist in the preparation of Risk Assessment, Safe Work Procedures and other relevant documents. Track records of all documentation including Risk Assessment, Safe Work Procedures, inventory records of consumables such as hazardous and bio-hazardous chemicals, electronic components and mechanical spare parts. Handle the procurement and logistics for apparatus and consumables. Provide support to staff in the preparation of materials and setting up equipment for production. We are seeking a Level A or B Research Associate/ Fellow with expertise in implementation research that includes quantitative and qualitative methods, to assist in research that will evaluate a targeted strategy to support health professionals in delivering more effective, evidence-based care for knee osteoarthritis, with the aim of reducing low-value treatments and improving patient outcomes. This project focuses on improving care for people with osteoarthritis, a common and painful condition that costs the Australian healthcare system over $4 billion each year. Although the most effective treatments involve education, exercise and weight management, many patients are not offered these options and instead receive unnecessary imaging or are referred for surgery that may not benefit them. We are seeking a highly motivated academic Research Associate/Fellow (Level A or B) to lead and coordinate key elements of a complex health research trial. In this role, you will establish and manage governance and stakeholder groups while leading protocol development and contributing to data acquisition, analysis and management. The position involves engaging with a wide range of stakeholders-including GPs, physiotherapists, primary health networks, and local healthcare providers-to support trial activities. You will lead co-design workshops and implementation strategy development, oversee pilot and full trial delivery, drive process evaluation activities and supervise junior staff, including a PhD student and data analyst.
