About the Role: This role provides an end-to-end recruitment service to a demanding and wide range of stakeholders. Customer service will be key, and you will pragmatically support Hiring Managers (HM) to recruit high quality individuals for the University. You will provide dedicated support to a specific Faculty/School/Professional Services directorate, where you will manage the recruitment of a variety of roles including Academic, Research and Professional Services positions. Key Responsibilities: Provide an in-house specialist talent acquisition service; partner with the HMs to deliver an effective and efficient hiring process with clear timelines and methods of delivery. Support HMs in drafting job descriptions (JDs) and adverts providing guidance to maximise the pool of qualified applications and ensure they’re legally compliant. Provide guidance on where/how to place recruitment adverts, ensuring value for money and advising on recruitment best practice including diversity and inclusion. Provide advice to panel members and create, share and maintain shortlisting grids electronically and in line with data protection/employment legislation. Facilitate the interview/assessment process – e.g. invite candidates to interview, confirm interview panel and candidate attendees; troubleshoot and adopt a common sense and calm approach to any unforeseen issues arising with the schedule. Support the HM in the negotiation process when needed i.e. provide salary data and analysis to the HM, being mindful of diversity, confidentiality and GDPR Help coach and supervise Recruitment Coordinators within the team. Communicate with unsuccessful candidates and provide feedback where appropriate. Strive to ensure that all candidates have an excellent experience when applying to King’s College. Ensure that all pre-employment checks are met for the successful candidate, liaising with the HM and Staff Compliance team as appropriate. Liaise with HR Operations and UKVI colleagues to issue the appropriate contractual paperwork when recruiting staff who require a visa. Close vacancies within the ATS and update HR electronic files accordingly. Ensure all assigned recruitment actions are entered into the ATS; ensure 100% accuracy and compliance; at the request of HMs, provide status reports in relation to applicants/progress of a recruitment/diversity statistics. Take responsibility for a distinct area of the university, regularly meet your HMs, department administrators and Director of Operations to ensure they are satisfied with the service they receive from the Recruitment Team. You will be required to attend the office a minimum of two days a week, or additional days as per the requirements of the role. This will include working with your business areas and basing yourselves in their offices as needed. Act as a point of escalation for Recruitment Coordinators to raise issues or queries related to the faculty/departments you support. About You You will have the following skills and experience: Experience working within an internal recruitment Team which have very high volumes of recruitment. Applications are invited for a post-doctoral Research Fellow position within the Astronautics Group, in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The post will work on a collaborative project involving industry and academia, funded substantially by the UK Space Agency. This is part of the UK Space Agency National Space Innovation Programme just announced by UKSA. The overall project is to develop a dual mode chemical-electric space propulsion system, using water as the propellant. Through electrolysis of water oxygen and hydrogen are produced, which can both be burnt in a chemical thruster, but also used as a propellant within a Hall Effect ion thruster. The project involves companies Protolaunch (chemical thruster) and Naicker Scientific (electrolyser), with University of Southampton working on the development of a Hall thruster operating on oxygen. Specifically the Research Fellow position will involve the design, manufacture and testing of a Hall ion thruster operating on oxygen. This will be based upon our World leading expertise in the development of Hall thruster technology specifically operating on alternative propellants, as described in other publications (doi: 10.1016/j.actaastro.2023.07.047, and 10.1016/j.actaastro.2023.01.033). The research will make use of our identified methods to adjust Hall thruster designs for operation with alternative propellants, that we have applied to Hall thrusters operating on magnesium to nitrogen.  You will join a team of eight researchers working on different aspects of space propulsion, as part of our team working in the David Fearn Electric Propulsion Lab at the University of Southampton. It will be expected that the researcher actively engages with industry involved, and with the research team, with opportunities to travel to conferences during the project duration. It is desirable that the person has experience in designing and testing ion thruster technology, or a demonstrated aptitude for learning new fields of research. The person should have a PhD, or equivalent qualifications and experience, in aerospace engineering, experimental beam physics, or other ion beam uses. It is desirable that the person has experience of operating large vacuum chamber facilities, and a strong aptitude towards experimental testing. The PhD project will focus on the design, analysis, and evaluation of the behavioural impacts of user-oriented traffic and mobility management, with particular attention to sustainability, safety, and efficiency in multimodal transport systems. The PhD project may focus on one or more of the following themes: Traffic modelling and multimodal transport simulation Travel behaviour and choice modelling Network optimization and algorithmic methods Machine learning and data-driven approaches for mobility analysis, prediction, or decision support Policy-oriented evaluation of traffic and mobility interventions Your experience and ambitions We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with strong analytical skills and a clear interest in transport systems, travel behaviour, and sustainable mobility. The successful applicant should enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary research environment and be willing to engage with both methodological and applied research questions. Applicants should hold a master’s degree in transportation engineering, civil engineering, computer science, data science, economics, or a closely related field. The doctoral degree is granted after successfully completing a set of advanced taught courses (30 ECTS), writing a doctoral thesis (usually based on publications), and defending the thesis in a public examination. During the PhD, the doctoral researcher will be expected to present at high-level scientific conferences, publish in leading academic journals, actively participate in the SPT research group activities, assist in the preparation of new research proposals, and help to advise master’s students during the preparation of their final project. The salary range, terms, and conditions are based on a collective bargaining agreement among Finnish universities. The starting salary is approximately 2900 €/month (gross), and it increases as the Doctoral Researcher progresses in the research and studies.  The initial contract period is 2 years, evaluated by a compulsory midterm review during the second year, with the possibility of extension for the remaining period (a further two years) if satisfactory progress has been made.
