Liverpool John Moores University has been awarded funding from UKRI to develop the Med-IREN project: Mediterranean critical Infrastructure Resilience Engineering with Nature based solutions (UKRI Horizon Europe HORIZON-MISS-2023-CLIMA-01-02) to further knowledge and practice within the field of durability of construction, to integrate Nature based Solutions into grey infrastructure to strengthen resilience in Mediterranean climate hot spots. LJMU supports the design of structures by quantifying potential waste and incorporating biomaterials using locally available resources, leveraging its expertise in molecular analysis of bio-feedstock, waste valorisation, degradation kinetics & durability, mineralogical phase characterisation of materials, lab-based testing on electrochemical techniques, microstructure performance evaluation and computational modelling. You will be self-motivated with a proven track record on molecular and microstructural analysis, waste valorisation with stabilisation, degradation kinetics & durability and engineering knowledge of electrochemical technique towards durability and performance evaluation of construction materials, aligned with SDGs and experienced on working in a team environment, able to raise the profile and promoting the activities of the project. The researcher assesses and enhances the durability of reinforced zero-cement concrete and bio-based materials compositions, utilising regional and European resources, conduct thorough laboratory testing and self-healing systems and perform a variety of durability tests. The role provides the unique opportunity to work with a driven and hardworking research team within the University, along with researchers from the School of Engineering and Built Environment. You will be self-motivated, highly results-oriented individual with a proven track record of achieving ambitious goals and exceeding expectations in a relevant discipline. This is a fixed term post for 2 years. The project will involve the design, modification and characterisation of biologically active peptides and proteins and the study of their interactions with cells. The second position is a fixed‑term, 24‑month appointment supporting a National Health and Medical Research Council Ideas grant that seeks to develop broad‑spectrum inhibitors for viral infectious diseases. The project will involve the identification and characterisation of new inhibitors and the study of their interactions with viral proteases. The People The successful applicants will undertake independent research in medicinal chemistry with a view to publishing original and innovative results in refereed journals, presenting their work at seminars and conferences, and collaborating with other researchers. The successful applicants will hold a relevant PhD with a track record of innovative research in peptide and protein chemistry. Applicants should demonstrate experience across peptide synthesis, protein expression, biochemical assays, phage display and cell culture. Location: Bedford Park / Kaurna Country View position description About the Role The Student Communication & Engagement Officer is critical to making a difference to the student experience, as you implement student communication plans and activities that focus on enhancing student engagement and success across the University. The position focuses on creating and distributing compelling digital content, managing social media channels, and designing physical marketing materials to increase awareness of events, programs and critical university services while monitoring metrics for improvement. As a part of the Student Life division the Student Communication & Engagement Officer works closely across College and Portfolio areas to enhance communication and digital student information to also increase awareness of the services and activities designed to support student commencement, orientation, transition and progression, which ultimately contributes to enhancing the student experience. Some of the key accountabilities of the role are: Working in collaboration with the Student Communication and Engagement Coordinator, developing and implementing integrated communication and promotional strategies to support student engagement and success across the University.
