You will oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures, and use data, labour market insights, and global best practice to drive innovation and continuous improvement. HKU’s Department of Urban Planning and Design (DUPAD) is an internationally leading planning school with excellence in teaching and research in urban and regional development, urban analytics and smart cities, climate urban resilience and planetary, transport city and society, housing and social development. Its vision is to offer leadership in intellectual and methodological developments in the field, as well as making lasting impact on urban planning, management and policy developments in Hong Kong, mainland China, the Belt and Road Region and further afield. DUPAD is celebrating its 45th Anniversary, with a history of blending urban science, planning, design and policy analytics and has one of the strongest groups of urban scholars and scientists in the world. It is also active in interdisciplinary research, with strong links with geography, public health, real-estate and urban economics, transport, architecture, social science and environmental science groups in HKU and other universities. The Department is one of the most well-established and globally respected urban research centres in the Asia-Pacific region. The Department offers a range of taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and M.Phil./Ph.D. research programmes in urban and regional development and governance, spatial economy and planning, transport studies, urban analytics and smart cities, housing studies, healthy cities and urban environmental studies. They should have a distinguished and sustained record of conducting high-quality impactful research, as indicated by publications and competitive grants, international recognition for scholarship, capability of leading interdisciplinary projects and proven managerial and leadership skills. In addition, applicants should demonstrate a strong track record of high-quality teaching and a commitment to mentoring the next generation of scholars, researchers, and educators. They should also have versatile academic ability and personality, intellectual and practical vision, and an aspiration/ability to develop strong connections with industry and the public sector. A track record of research in the Asia-Pacific region will be an advantage but is not essential. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
