Would you like to conduct research on neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation, and vascular involvement in the brain in an experimental environment? Then we look forward to welcoming you as a Praedoc University Assistant at the University of Vienna. The advertised PhD project is translational in nature and deals with the cellular toxicity of pathologically modified α-synuclein species in relevant in vitro models of the central nervous system. Your personal sphere of play: As a Praedoc university assistant, you will join Associate Prof. Marietta Zille, PhD's research team in the field of cellular and molecular neuro- and vascular pharmacology. You will be involved in a clearly structured PhD project and work independently on scientific questions. The research focus of the working group is on regulated cell death mechanisms, the neurovascular unit and blood-brain barrier, stroke and cerebral hemorrhage, neuroinflammation, cellular senescence, and innovative in vitro models for investigating neurodegenerative processes. Associate Prof. Zille's team currently consists of a postdoc, predocs, and administrative colleagues and has a strong international network. Your future tasks: You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means: You will work on an experimental PhD project in the field of neurodegeneration, cellular neurotoxicity, and glial stress responses You will plan and conduct in vitro experiments with primary cells of the central nervous system, especially neurons and glial cells You will investigate the effects of toxic stimuli on cell viability, cell death, and cellular stress and inflammatory responses You will apply established cell biological, molecular biological, and microscopic methods and evaluate them quantitatively You will work with models of the blood-brain barrier to analyze barrier function and transport processes We expect the dissertation agreement to be completed within 12-18 months You will work continuously on your dissertation and its timely completion You will hold courses in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement You will take on administrative tasks in research and teaching This is part of your personality: Completed master's or diploma degree in pharmacy, biology, biomedicine, molecular biology, neuroscience, or a related field, or about to complete a relevant degree Proven practical experience working with primary cell cultures, ideally from the central nervous system Experience with experimental models of cellular damage or cell death induction Familiarity with quantitative cell viability or cell death assays is an advantage Experience in independently planning and conducting laboratory experiments Interest in neurodegenerative or cerebrovascular diseases, neuroinflammation, or cellular stress mechanisms Very good written and spoken English skills (C1 level) Careful, structured way of working and strong team and communication skills Interest in university teaching and further scientific qualification Experience with glial cells, neurovascular issues, or models of acute cellular damage is a particular advantage. As our Student Success & Wellbeing Coordinator, you will lead the strategic delivery of student success and wellbeing services and initiatives to ensure the delivery of high-quality guidance and support to students. The position is responsible for the operational oversight of the Student Success and Wellbeing Advisor (SSWA) team, including managing the team's workflow, triaging and allocation of student cases and implementation of quality assurance processes to enhance the student experience, retention, and success. As a member of the Student Life division, the Student Success and Wellbeing Coordinator leads the identification and execution of proactive outreach campaigns, events, and interventions across the student lifecycle. The role acts as a primary liaison between Student Life, the Colleges, and student service areas across the University. The role also works collaboratively with Student Success Leads to design and monitor targeted support services for specific equity cohorts. This is a hugely rewarding role, as you lead the design and execution of targeted outreach campaigns focusing on critical milestones like orientation, census dates, and academic progress cycles, and see the results first-hand. Some out of hours, weekend and travel may be required. Other key position responsibilities include: Acting as an escalation point for SSWAs, providing specialized guidance on sensitive and high-risk matters. Providing one to one case management for students to support their wellbeing and academic needs. About You With experience coordinating high-volume case management or triage systems for a team, (preferably within a mental health or student support context), whilst also managing a personal case load, you possess high level interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including students from a diverse background and staff. Your exceptional written and oral communication, ensure your capacity to influence and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders. This is matched by your ability to manage projects including identifying priorities, working to deadlines and providing regular status reports and updates. To be successful in this role, you will also have: Experience and proven ability collecting and interpreting data from Student Information Systems and CRM platforms to drive continuous improvement. Proven ability to provide operational team leadership in a fast-paced environment, including developing procedures and maintaining service standards.
