ESEP Escola Superior de Enfermagem do Porto began as three separate institutions: the Higher Nursing Schools of D. Ana Guedes, Cidade do Porto, and São João. In 2007 all three schools merged to form Escola Superior de Enfermagem do Porto.

However, the university’s history dates back to 1896 when the Nursing Course at Hospital Geral de Santo António was created, the first nursing school in the country.

The university is located in Porto, the second largest city in Portugal.

There are a number of different master’s degree programmes on offer at the university. All programmes specialise in specific areas of nursing such as public health, palliative care, paediatric health, psychiatric nursing, and community health.

The Student Association consists of five departments: cultural department, student support department, scientific department, department of communication and image, and the sports department.

The university is a member of the Sustainable Campus Network, a cooperation network in Portugal that connects higher education institutions through sustainability. The network’s first conference took place in 2019 and ESEP was one of 28 institutions that attended.

The university has taken numerous measures to ensure its campus is sustainable and environmentally friendly. These measures include installing rainwater recovery systems, thermal insulation solutions and chargers for electric vehicles.

Your personal sphere of play: The Department of Sociology at the University of Vienna, a vital unit within the Faculty of Social Sciences, welcomes applications for a Post Doctoral position in an ERC Advanced Grant project centred on the role of emotion in public debate on loneliness, privacy, radicalisation and social isolation under the guidance of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Anna Durnova, Ph.D. This position is offered in the framework of the ERC Advanced Grant project LONERS "Loneliness, Emotions, and Regulation: Understanding Institutions through Privacy". As a Post Doctoral researcher, you will become a member of the Research Team of Anna Durnova, situated at the Department of Sociology.  The team's primary mission is to develop theoretical concepts and analytical tools to understand better current societal polarization, among which loneliness is seen as a crucial area. A special focus of the international team is given to interpretive social research and social research on emotions.  Additional methodological focus is welcome. The project: “Loneliness, Emotions, and Regulation: Understanding Institutions through Privacy” (LONERS) is funded by the European Research Council as an Advanced Grant. Within the LONERS project we aim to explore the relationship between loneliness, privacy, and emotions to help institutions better respond to citizens’ emotional needs. Going beyond conventional views of privacy, it will identify key moments of intervention that respect citizens’ privacy. By examining how loneliness interacts with societal values and norms, the project seeks to outline a framework for balancing privacy concerns with citizens well-being. Your future tasks: Active participation in research and project coordination assistance which means: You build up an independent research profile in the field of political sociology and emotion research. You will independently plan and execute empirical research within the scope of the ERC project outlined earlier. You are involved in  related research project and scientific studies in the area of radicalisation, social isolation and loneliness. You publish internationally and give lectures. You apply for theme-related projects and raise further third-party funds. You mentor students and junior members of the  LONERS project. You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance. You participate in a research project and in scientific studies in the field of political sociology developing your own research interests. You participate in national and international conferences and project meetings. You will write scientific publications. Your tasks will involve literature review, finetuning of analytical schemes to address the political force of emotions and supporting the coordinator in the elaboration of reports, as well as social impact activities. You will be part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, benefiting from an extensive network of excellent researchers. Active involvement in ongoing research conducted by the research team of Anna Durnova is encouraged. This is part of your personality: Strong interest in exploring sociology of emotions and political sociology  research topics theoretically and empirically. Strong interest in research on loneliness, politics of emotions in the context of radicalisation, social isolation and polarisation. PhD in sociology or related disciplines. Outstanding dissertation. Proficiency in social science qualitative research methods. A keen interest in acquiring advanced skills in discourse analysis and social network analysis. Experience with scientific writing and presenting. Further project-relevant writing skills are an asset. Excellent command of written and spoken English. While not mandatory, proficiency in an additional foreign language (notably Italian, Dutch) is a definite asset, due to the international character of the project. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  Job Details This Research Engineer will contribute to an international joint project related to policy-making in urban planning and design, focusing on developing a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) framework and tool. The work will involve integrating results from GeoTOPSIS and/or VectorMCDA in QGIS, enhancing spatial decision support for blue–green infrastructure and ecosystem service evaluation. The Research Engineer will lead the software development and interface programming, working closely with the GIS Research Fellow and interdisciplinary project team members to create a user-friendly, scalable decision-support tool for planners and policymakers. As part of understanding the ecosystem services that are involved in Singapore, the successful candidate will also be expected to perform some field-based data collection during the duration of the project. Key Responsibilities Work closely with the PI, Co-PI, and research team to ensure timely completion of all project deliverables. Implement and enhance GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA algorithms within QGIS using Python or equivalent programming frameworks. Develop a user-friendly interface (QGIS plugin or web-based application) for decision-making and data visualization. Collaborate with the GIS Research Fellow to integrate ecosystem service layers and model outputs. Conduct tool testing, validation, and iterative refinement based on stakeholder feedback. Manage documentation, data pipelines, and version control. Support system deployment on a secure project server and ensure cross-platform interoperability. Assist in project management and support the team in facilitating and organizing workshops, stakeholder sessions, and policy dialogues. Be involved in regular field work data collection and to perform environmental and biodiversity surveys (fish, birds and insects) as part of a research team. To communicate in any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Job Requirements Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Geomatics, Environmental Informatics, or related fields. Strong programming skills in Python, R, or JavaScript for spatial analysis, interface development, or web applications. Experience in plugin or dashboard development (e.g., PyQGIS, Dash, Streamlit, or web-GIS frameworks). Familiarity with GIS concepts and geospatial data structures; experience with QGIS or ArcGIS will be an advantage. Ability to translate analytical models into intuitive, interactive user interfaces. Good teamwork, documentation, and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated and able to learn new tools and frameworks independently. Additional Note: While prior experience with GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA is not mandatory, it will be considered a strong advantage. On-the-job training will be provided to equip the candidate with necessary methods and integration workflows with ecosystem service models and spatial datasets. About the role The PDRA will conduct research within the Wellcome-funded Speculative Fertilities**: Finance, Pharma, and the Future of Reproduction** project, which aims to transform the social study of reproduction by analysing the intersection of the financial and fertility sectors as a key site of reproductive politics. Using qualitative methods, this project consists of three work streams analysing case studies that may transform the future of reproduction, including automated IVF, in vitro gametogenesis (IVG) and mifepristone (abortion pill) as contraception. The advertised position focuses on the latter work stream, which will explore the socio-cultural as well as political-economic dimensions of clinical trials that explore the possibility of using mifepristone as a weekly contraceptive. The research will focus on the social dynamics of both the clinical trials themselves and the steps towards registration, authorisation and implementation after the trial finishes. This is a full-time role, and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 36 months. Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. Research Assistant in GeoAI, Infectious Diseases, and Health Equity

About us  King’s College London invites applications for a Research Assistant (RA) in GeoAI, Infectious Diseases, and Health Equity to join the GeoAI for Health Equity Lab (GAHEL, pronounced “gail”) led by Dr. Sabrina Li. The RA will contribute to Dr. Li’s UKRI-funded Future Leaders Fellowship project which focusses on integrating equity considerations into infectious disease mapping and surveillance, starting with the UK. The RA will be based in the Department of Geography, but will have access to training and support from King’s Health Partners Digital Health Hub, King’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence, and the Digital Futures Institute. The RA will also have access to research and career development from King’s Centre for Research Staff Development. The postholder will work closely with Dr. Li and in collaboration with national and international interdisciplinary partners based at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, and John Hopkins University (USA). About the role The RA will contribute to the theoretical and methodological developments of scalable GeoAI systems that improve understanding of infectious disease risks across populations and space, particularly for vulnerable and disadvantaged populations. The RA will lead literature review searches to identify the historical, structural, and contextual drivers of disease risk and inequity, and map pathways and interactions among determinants to inform disease mapping and modelling.  The RA will lead the development of a database of high-resolution equity indicators for disease surveillance, and will contribute to the development of novel approaches for managing confidential spatial health data, including differential privacy and other secure geospatial data protocols. This research will advance our understanding of how major infectious diseases of concern in the UK emerge, spread, and unequally affect different individuals and population groups. Outcomes of this research will help advance the development of more equitable, spatial data-driven approaches to public health surveillance and pandemic preparedness, with direct links to public health policy. The findings will inform the development of a real-time spatial AI system to improve early detection and risk prediction, to protect vulnerable populations in the UK and in the future globally. This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a 2-year fixed-term contract.
