Known as the Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Lyon until 1997, EMLyon is one of the oldest business schools in France, founded by the city’s business community in 1872. Its main campus, in the suburb of Ecully, was purpose-built to celebrate the institution’s centenary in 1972. 

It has other French campuses at St Etienne and, since 2016, in Paris along with collaborative agreements with other universities in Lyon, Sciences-Po in Paris and the highly prestigious Ecole des Mines. 

A Triple Crown-accredited institution, it places a strong emphasis on what it terms "Early Makers", favouring entrepreneurial students over aspirant corporate executives. The Entrepreneur Centre created in 1984 is reckoned to have incubated more than 1,400 start-up companies of which around 85 per cent survived for five years or more. 

International activities have had a strong Chinese influence since the mid 1990s. A French-medium MBA in partnership with Jean Moulin University and Lingnan College, part of Sun-Yat Sen University, has run since 1997. A Shanghai office was opened in 2000, followed in 2007 by a campus at East China National University. 

A newly-created Global DBA programme incorporating a doctoral thesis, runs in partnership with Durham University, will include modules taught in Durham, Lyon and Shanghai. 

A Morocco campus was opened in Casablanca in 2015, while a new four-year bachelor in business administration course is being offered at Bhubaneshwar in India as a joint enterprise with Xavier University.

At the same time as pursuing cutting edge modernity with its “Smarter Business School” partnership with IBM, EMLyon continues to reflect the deep-rooted epicurean heritage of its home city by hosting the annual Defi de Bacchus, claimed to be the largest wine-tasting competition in Europe.

About the project: ChirTrans investigates how chirality of swimming bacteria determines their active transport processes in complex microstructured heterogeneous environments and in complex shear flows. It combines computational and theoretical modeling at the University of Vienna with experiments performed at ESPCI Paris. Our previous work demonstrated the importance of bacterial chirality in transport in simple microchannel flows and near plane surfaces. ChirTrans now aims to uncover how chirality impacts bacterial transport in more complex microstructured environments. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to internationally visible, frontier research. You will have the chance to help build and shape a high-impact interdisciplinary research group while working on your own research. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The Research Fellow / Engineer (Building-Grid Interaction Design) will contribute to a two-year applied research project funded by the BCA, focusing on the development of a power grid interactive building or cluster of buildings. The role involves designing and implementing monitoring, visualization and control system to coordinate multiple energy sources including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV, and diesel generators, and dynamically interacting with building management system to shed signficant loads under varying operating conditions. The research staff will develop, simulate, and test controller logic using MATLAB/Simulink or similar environments, analyse performance across diverse scenarios, and document results for technical reporting. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in modern facilities management, mechanical and electrical engineering and energy efficiency management.  Key Responsibilities Participate in the research project to design a microgrid controller for grid interactive building applications. Develop control algorithms for dynamic master selection, coordinating BESS, PV, diesel generators, and other sources. Implement predictive, rule-based, or optimisation-based control strategies using MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or embedded software tools. Integrate controller logic with the microgrid model and validate performance under different simulated conditions. Conduct testing of control strategies under various operating conditions such as extreme weather, load variation, equipment failure and deployment constraints. Prepare documentation, flowcharts, control logic diagrams, and controller specifications for the final report. Assist with procurement of software licences and technical equipment. Conduct Risk Assessments and ensure compliance with WSH regulations. Support supervision of capstone project students involved in the project. Work independently and collaboratively to maintain research software and project tools. To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by supervisor. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from a recognised university. Strong programming skills in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, or similar environments. Understanding of control systems, power electronics, or energy management strategies. Experience in microgrid controller design is advantageous. Familiarity with BESS control strategies, SOC management, or optimisation algorithms preferred.
