Situated at the heart of the Netherlands’ high-tech industrial heartland, Eindhoven University of Technology has played a massive role in driving the Dutch knowledge economy over the past six decades.

The university, known as TUE, was originally founded in 1956 to supply electronics giant  Philips with the highly-skilled graduates it needed for its famous laboratories, which went on to create the first audio and video cassettes, CD and laserdisc players.

Its considerable links to Philips remain important, but TUE’s links to other businesses in the so-called ‘Brainport’ area – the Dutch equivalent of Silicon Valley – are arguably as important in the 21st century. The area is the corporate home of ASML, NXP, DAF Trucks and DSM, as well as several Dutch R&D institutes, and is the European region with the highest number of patents.

Among the TUE research groups with substantial links to industry based at TUE are its Intelligent Lighting Institute, the Data Science Center Eindhoven, the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems and the Materials Technology group.

Its key research areas include automotive systems, broadband telecommunication technologies, information and communication systems, nano-engineering, plasmas and polymers, with its key research areas identified as energy, health and smart mobility.

Its expertise in robotics has been demonstrated by TUE’s continued success in the RoboCup, in which soccer robots built by universities across the world compete for globry. TUE took its third world title in July 2019 having reached its ninth final in a row.

Its students also gained national media attention for creating the world’s first ‘drone’ café in 2016, in which alcoholic drinks were served by flying ‘waiter drones’.

Other areas in which TUE excel include data science, high tech systems and photonic integration.

Located at the heart of Eindhoven, the medium-sized university has around 5,000 undergraduates, 3,200 master’s students and 1,200 doctoral candidates. The university offers courses in English and Dutch, as well as Dutch for beginners for international students.

Sport plays a central role in campus life, with the university’s offering access to 70 different sports via numerous student-run societies, which include those for mountain climbing, taekwondo, wind surfing and snow boarding.

The redeveloped TUE Library, located in the MetaForum building at the centre of the campus, also provides nearly 1,000 study seats, each of which is equipped with wireless internet access.

This position is supported by a National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) Investigator Initiated Research Scheme grant focused on developing and validating innovative multi-low-dose (MLD) combination therapies for PI3K-driven breast cancer. Work that matters Combination therapies can overcome adaptive resistance but often fail clinically due to toxicity. This project takes a different approach: systematically identifying and validating multi-low-dose regimens that co-target key oncogenic nodes to maintain efficacy while reducing toxicity and resistance. The role will contribute to experiments and analysis that map signalling ‘escape routes’ and generate quantitative datasets to support predictive, generalisable therapy prioritisation. The Project Profile signalling network rewiring after PI3K-pathway inhibition using time-course perturbation experiments in PI3K-altered breast cancer models Generate quantitative signalling datasets using approaches such as western blotting and multiplexed assays; contribute to phosphoproteomics-ready sample preparation workflows where required Support in vitro validation of prioritised MLD regimens (dose–response, viability/proliferation, migration, apoptosis, colony formation), including longer-term resistance selection experiments where appropriate Contribute to in vivo and patient-derived model validation activities through close collaboration with partner groups (e.g., xenograft and organoid teams) Work closely with computational modellers to ensure experimental design and readouts inform model calibration and therapy prioritisation The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Nguyen and a multidisciplinary project team spanning leading research institutions, including Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Monash University, the Monash Organoid Program, and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. SIT is expanding its Robotics and Embodied AI (EAI) capabilities, building a cohort of academic staff who are keen and experienced working on industry problems in relevant areas. Candidates will contribute to industry-relevant research in embodied AI, simulation and digital twins, cybersecurity, robot operations and related areas, with a strong emphasis on translation into real-world applications. Key Responsibilities Lead or co-lead innovative applied research and industry collaboration projects with industry partners and government agencies. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an academic research project funded by HTX, where you will be part of the research team under the project titled: Occupant Tenability and Time to Flashover in Small-Sized Flats (Numerical Study Phase) Under this job, you will develop a CFD modelling platform to study effects of different ventilation factors on an occupant’s tenability when trapped in the bedroom and have a reliable time to flashover within representative HDB units. Job Responsibilities: Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: Assists in co-supervision of final year projects (FYP) or capstone projects students under the Project PI. Meeting the deliverables by carrying out the computational simulations and experimental studies planned for under the scope of work of the projects within the timeframe to meet the deliverables. Assists the PI in drafting of reports, conference proceedings and journal articles based on the outcome of the projects. Prepares and shares fortnightly report of results from the computations with the PI. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other adhoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements: Master or Ph.D (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Engineering or related fields. Strong knowledge and experience in flashover/building fire simulation is high advantageous. Hands on experience on experimental studies Familiarity with CFD applications working on industrial related projects using high performance computing clusters would also be advantageous Strong foundation in Fluid Dynamics Strong prior experience in CFD – particularly in building fire combustion and spread. Strong skills in turbulence modelling, CFD mesh generation in complex 3D geometries. Proficient in handling large data sets and the ability to analysis and interpret results. Experience in commercial CFD package such as FDS and ANSYS package is preferred. Candidate preferably should be familiar and have sufficient experience in using FDS and ANSYS FLUENT, Meshing tool and post-processing software.
