Situated at the heart of the Netherlands’ high-tech industrial heartland, Eindhoven University of Technology has played a massive role in driving the Dutch knowledge economy over the past six decades.

The university, known as TUE, was originally founded in 1956 to supply electronics giant  Philips with the highly-skilled graduates it needed for its famous laboratories, which went on to create the first audio and video cassettes, CD and laserdisc players.

Its considerable links to Philips remain important, but TUE’s links to other businesses in the so-called ‘Brainport’ area – the Dutch equivalent of Silicon Valley – are arguably as important in the 21st century. The area is the corporate home of ASML, NXP, DAF Trucks and DSM, as well as several Dutch R&D institutes, and is the European region with the highest number of patents.

Among the TUE research groups with substantial links to industry based at TUE are its Intelligent Lighting Institute, the Data Science Center Eindhoven, the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems and the Materials Technology group.

Its key research areas include automotive systems, broadband telecommunication technologies, information and communication systems, nano-engineering, plasmas and polymers, with its key research areas identified as energy, health and smart mobility.

Its expertise in robotics has been demonstrated by TUE’s continued success in the RoboCup, in which soccer robots built by universities across the world compete for globry. TUE took its third world title in July 2019 having reached its ninth final in a row.

Its students also gained national media attention for creating the world’s first ‘drone’ café in 2016, in which alcoholic drinks were served by flying ‘waiter drones’.

Other areas in which TUE excel include data science, high tech systems and photonic integration.

Located at the heart of Eindhoven, the medium-sized university has around 5,000 undergraduates, 3,200 master’s students and 1,200 doctoral candidates. The university offers courses in English and Dutch, as well as Dutch for beginners for international students.

Sport plays a central role in campus life, with the university’s offering access to 70 different sports via numerous student-run societies, which include those for mountain climbing, taekwondo, wind surfing and snow boarding.

The redeveloped TUE Library, located in the MetaForum building at the centre of the campus, also provides nearly 1,000 study seats, each of which is equipped with wireless internet access.

We are now looking for a Doctoral Researcher in Building Acoustics with a strong interest in historical construction and twentieth-century architecture in Finland We are looking for a Doctoral Researcher to join a new multidisciplinary research group in Structural and Architectural Engineering at Aalto University’s Civil Engineering Department. In this position you will have a chance to make an impact by working on the historical construction materials and sound insulation of Finnish buildings from different decades of the twentieth century, and examining how they can be renovated and improved. Join us in shaping the future! This position combines both practical acoustics measurements with simulations and finite-element modelling, and will allow a candidate to gain experience across the fields of architecture, engineering, and construction. Your role and goals Conduct archival studies to gather documents and materials on existing buildings, structures, and construction materials Plan and conduct acoustic and sound insulation measurements according to international standards Adapt existing finite-element models to estimate the sound insulation performance of renovated buildings The doctoral degree is granted after successfully completing a set of advanced taught courses (30 ECTS), writing a doctoral thesis (usually based on publications), and defending the thesis in a public examination. During the duration of the doctoral studies, the researcher will be expected to present publish in leading academic journals and high-level scientific conferences, actively participate in the research group activities, assist in the preparation of new research proposals, engage in teaching-related duties, and help to advise master’s students during the preparation of their final project. The research will heavily involve acoustic measurements and field surveys. The researcher is also expected to carry out collaborative work with external stakeholders such as industry partners, depending on the project needs. Therefore, the work will also require ongoing stakeholder engagement and communication. The primary workplace is Aalto University’s Otaniemi Campus, with an in-person presence on the campus, due to the need for specialised software for processing measurement data and subsequent modelling tasks. Your network and team The Doctoral Researcher will be a part of the new Structural and Architectural Engineering Research Group in the Department of Civil Engineering, and collaborate with practicing architects and engineers, building owners, and officials from various cities in Finland. The academic supervisor will be Prof. Patrick Fleming. Your experience and ambitions We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with experience in acoustic testing and modelling, with skills and a clear interest in historical construction, structures, and architecture. Applicants should hold a master’s degree with very good grades in sound and vibration, noise control engineering, architectural acoustics, or a closely related field. Excellent written and fluent verbal communication skills in English are essential. Finnish proficiency is considered as an advantage. The successful applicant should enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary research environment and be willing to engage with both methodological and applied research questions. Strong interpersonal skills are also essential. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a research team is necessary. Have a degree in Food Science and Technology, or Analytical Chemistry. Possessing a Master's or PhD degree will be advantageous Experience and Knowledge of operating HPLC, MALDI-TOF and Q-TOF Mass spectrometry for protein sequencing, carbohydrate/Sugar analysis, and polyphenol identification. Previous experience as lab-in-charge or equipment-in-charge will be advantageous. Able to communicate with industrial collaborators to share key findings, seek supports, or conducting commercial trials. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety, and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Description The Future-Generation of Resilient and Infrastructure Design Technology Hub (Future-GRID TecH) in the Division of Engineering at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit one motivated post-doctoral associate (or research scientist for experienced candidates with 5 years of post-PhD experience). The candidate will work under the supervision of Future-GRID TecH director Dr. Mohamed Moustafa to carry out cutting-edge research in the broad area of future structures and resilient infrastructure systems with interest in applications of new and emerging technologies. Particular areas of interest include: structural 3D printing (metals, concrete, and composites) computational mechanics and structural topology optimization vision-based structural health monitoring autonomous and drone-based infrastructure inspection and vibration monitoring Successful candidates must hold a PhD degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Material Engineering. Other related field such as Computer Science, Nuclear Engineering, and Material Science are also welcomed. Required qualifications include: strong communication and presentation skills; a track record in writing and publishing peer-reviewed journal publications; and previous or relevant experience in mentoring or supervising undergraduate student research or junior graduate students. The SIT Centre for Intelligent Robotics is a strategic capability centre under RoboPrecinct@Punggol Digital District (PDD), responsible for developing and maintaining the core applied robotics and embodied AI capabilities required for precinct-level deployment of robotic systems. The centre is seeking a Robotics Engineer. This role is application-driven and system-oriented, focusing on the implementation, adaptation, and evaluation of state-of-the-art robotics algorithms on real robotic platforms. The successful candidate will work closely with physical robots and simulation environments to translate recent advances in learning-based robotics into robust, deployable systems. Key Responsibilities Implement, adapt, and evaluate state-of-the-art learning-based methods for robotic perception, decision-making, navigation, and manipulation. Apply reinforcement learning, imitation learning, and other skill learning frameworks to practical robotic applications. Integrate learning-based robot skills with full robot software stacks in ROS / ROS 2 environments. Develop and maintain perception and state representation pipelines using RGB-D and 3D sensing. Conduct simulation-to-real (Sim2Real) workflows, including data collection, model training, deployment, and testing on physical robots. Support system-level experimentation, benchmarking, and iterative improvement of embodied AI applications. Provide mentorship to undergraduate students in projects. Carry out risk assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Prepare technical documentation, reports, and implementation guides to support knowledge transfer and long-term maintainability. Contribute to publications and technical notes to disseminate research outcomes. The employee is to communicate with any internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other adhoc duties assigned by supervisor. Requirements Bachelor’s degree or higher in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field. Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. Working knowledge of reinforcement learning, imitation learning, or learning-based control concepts. Familiarity with robotics simulation tools such as Gazebo, Isaac Lab, or MuJoCo. Practical experience with ROS or ROS 2 for real-robot software integration. Proficiency in Python and C++, with experience developing and maintaining production-level code. At least 2 years of experience in robotics research or industry projects. Preferred Skillsets (Advantageous) Experience working with mobile manipulators, humanoid robots, or quadruped robots. Exposure to motion planning, control frameworks, or whole-body control systems. Experience with real-world robot experimentation and deployment. Experience with embodied AI and robot manipulation benchmarking platforms such as LIBERO, ManiSkill, or RLBench is highly desirable. Knowledge of GPU architectures, GPU cloud computing services, and strong familiarity with Linux operating systems. Knowledge of BIM, universal scene description and scene composition Knowledge of physics and simulation parameters, as well as sensor simulation pipeline.
