About Us The Department of Psychology and Human Development comprises a student-focused team of academics who deliver high-quality accredited degrees in Psychology including our BPS-accredited MSc in Occupational & Organisational Psychology and ABP-accredited MSc in Business Psychology. There are organisational and business routes in our closely allied applied positive psychology and coaching courses. The department also provides professional training in Psychology and a highly popular MSc Psychology (conversion) course as well as a suite of undergraduate accredited degrees. Our breadth of provision complements a thriving research-based PhD programme. This includes teaching across theoretical and applied components of the course (e.g., health and wellbeing at work; assessing and developing individuals in the workplace; work design, organizational change and development; leading and motivating people at work). You will supervise students undertaking research projects, applying your research skills (quantitative and/or qualitative as required) and supporting students’ development through their learning. For appointment at Senior Lecturer level, the postholder will also play a role in curriculum design, research development, and/or programme innovation, contributing to the strategic direction of the programme within the School. Your personal sphere of influence: At the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry our highly motivated interdisciplinary team offers a position for a PraeDoc in the area of bioinorganic chemistry and chemical biology in an inspiring scientific environment. A main aim of our work is the development of innovative approaches to elucidate the role of transition metals in cancer growth and to exploit the unique properties of metal complexes in anticancer drug discovery. Projects will involve the characterization of biological activities of novel compounds, including metal complexes and/or metal-binding agents, in in-vitro cancer and immune cell models. Strong expertise and state-of-the-art instrumentation for preclinical development of novel anticancer drugs are provided by this team. The contract duration is 3 years with a preliminary limitation of 1,5 years and will automatically be extended to 3 years unless the employer hands in a non-extension declaration after 12 months. An extension up to a total of 4 years is then possible provided the excellent performance of the candidate. Your future tasks: Original research projects in the area of bioinorganic chemistry and chemical biology will be centered on the biological effects of novel tumor-inhibiting compounds, including their impact on immune cells in the tumor microenvironment and therapy resistance mechanisms in human cell models. Characterization of bioactivities by cell and molecular biology-based methods including flow cytometry, (confocal) microscopy, and immunofluorescence will take place in coordination with experts in synthetic chemistry to enable the optimal design of potential cancer therapeutics. You will be actively involved in research, teaching, and administration. You will participate in the preparation of internal reports, publications, academic articles, and presentations of scientific results at national and international conferences. You will be expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months. You will work on your dissertation and its completion. You will teach courses independently to the extent specified in the collective agreement. You will instruct bachelor and master students and carry out administrative tasks in teaching and/or research. This is part of your personality: You have a diploma or master’s degree in molecular biology, immunobiology, biological chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry, or equivalent qualification.  Experience in mammalian cell culture techniques (ideally working with cancer and immune cells) and characterization of compound bioactivity (ideally including flow cytometry and imaging-based methods). Basic experience in cancer research, immunology, and academic writing. Attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part a team.
