This role will contribute to undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching in the broad area of quantitative climate systems dynamics, with a focus on modelling and understanding the implications of climate change for ecosystems, biodiversity, sustainability, and human societies. The successful candidate will play a major role in delivering innovative, student-centred teaching while strengthening a research profile aligned with College priorities. The Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Quantitative Climate Dynamics will contribute across: high-quality, ethical research in quantitative climate dynamics aligned with College research strengths; innovative, student-centred teaching using contemporary, flexible and multi-mode delivery; supervision and mentoring Honours and higher degree by research students (commensurate with level) collaboration and engagement with industry and external stakeholders to enhance teaching, learning, and research outcomes This position is open to national and international candidates, and relocation and visa support could be available. About You You are an established academic with strong quantitative and computational skills and a passion for climate science and its societal and environmental impacts. You are collaborative, student-focused, and research-active, with the ability to contribute meaningfully to both education and scholarship. Your expertise could align with areas such as quantitative climate modelling, ecosystem or biodiversity change, sustainability, socio-ecological systems, or climate impacts on human and health systems. You will bring: a completed PhD or equivalent qualification in climate dynamics or a closely related quantitative discipline; demonstrated experience and effectiveness in tertiary teaching, including curriculum design and delivery across face-to-face and online modes; a research track record appropriate to career stage, including quality publications and engagement with competitive research funding; demonstrated knowledge in advanced quantitative techniques, statistical methodology, modelling complex systems, databasing, and interdisciplinary analytical frameworks; demonstrated knowledge of advanced computer coding About the College of Science and Engineering At the College of Science and Engineering, we advocate the power of science and engineering to solve real-world problems. This person will join the team working on a Research Ireland Discover award in conjunction with the European Space Education Resource Office Ireland – an outreach project with national scope entitled “5*S: Space, Surveyors and Students: STEM and the Sustainable Development Goals”. This person will continue and expand the successful outreach already achieved with focus on Transition Year, Initial Teacher Education and Industry Geomentors, introducing them to Copernicus, Augmented Reality, spatial data and the UN SDGs. It will also explore setting up new links with postgraduate teaching programmes nationally.  5*S is a collaboration between Maynooth University (Departments of Geography and Education), TU Dublin, Esri Ireland, the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland, Tailte Eireann, the Office of the Chief Government Information Officer and SOLAS. The person appointed will have a proven GIS and remote sensing skillset and experience of working with Copernicus imagery appropriate to career stage. Candidates must demonstrate the capability for independent, problem focussed thinking and be enthusiastic about showcasing space data such as Copernicus in Schools. The successful candidate will be expected to visit project partners and schools all around the country and this role will also involve significant amounts of travel to schools in rural locations including overnight trips.
