The newly established Faculty of Science at the University of Macau (UM) invites applications for the position of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in Computational and AI Biology. This recruitment supports the launch of the new Department of Biological Sciences, part of UM’s strategic initiative to strengthen its foundation in fundamental and applied sciences. As part of UM’s broader academic development plan, the university is undertaking a major structural expansion by restructuring and establishing five faculties in science and technology. Among them, the Faculty of Science will be formed based on relevant program of the current Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) and Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS). The new Faculty will include the Department of Biological Sciences, Department of Chemistry, Department of Physics, and Department of Mathematics. The establishment of the Department of Biological Sciences will enhance the faculty’s multidisciplinary ecosystem and foster cross-cutting collaborations in emerging areas of science and technology. The Department of Biological Sciences strives to excel in both fundamental and applied research in biological sciences, particularly in areas of omics, computational biology, AI-driven biology, and generative biology. We seek candidates with expertise in these areas, especially those whose research leverages computational and AI technologies to address fundamental biological questions. Successful candidates are expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, curriculum development, and student mentorship, while establishing internationally competitive research programs. Qualifications Applicants should hold a PhD in disciplines closely related to the areas specified above, preferably with a strong background in biology. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong publication record, the ability to establish and lead an impactful research program addressing significant biological questions, a commitment to high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and active contribution to the development and growth of the Department and Faculty. The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027. Remuneration A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,250,200 (approximately USD154,350) for the position of Full Professor, MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
