About the opportunity We are seeking to appoint an outstanding academic leader at the level of Professor (Level E) as Head of School and Dean, The University of Sydney School of Dentistry. This is a senior executive leadership role within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health, and located at our Camperdown Campus, the Head of School and Dean is a member of the Faculty Leadership Group and head of the leadership team for the Sydney School of Dentistry. The role is responsible for setting and delivering the School's academic, educational and research vision; leading cultural and organisational development; and strengthening the School's national and international standing. Working in partnership with faculty leadership, the Head of School and Dean plays a key role in shaping and delivering faculty strategy at the school level. The Head of School and Dean provides strategic and operational leadership across education, research and clinical training, actively managing academic performance and fostering the development of staff and future leaders. The role holds responsibility for the School's financial sustainability, including budget management and resource allocation, and leads engagement with key external stakeholders such as health services, professional bodies, industry partners and philanthropic supporters. About the role: The Waste & Resource Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the effective management of waste and resources across King’s College London, including research and other hazardous or specialist waste streams. Sitting within the Sustainability Team in Estates & Facilities, this position is central to ensuring that King’s meets its legal obligations and ISO 14001 requirements while driving continual improvement in waste and resource practices. Reporting to the Sustainability Operations Manager, the postholder acts as the first point of contact for waste-related queries and provides operational advice to stakeholders across all campuses. You will maintain oversight of the waste budget, including forecasting, invoice validation, and reporting, ensuring cost-effective and transparent management of waste services. The role also involves maintaining accurate data inputs into a central Power BI system and interpreting complex datasets to inform decision-making and performance monitoring. Engagement and communication are key aspects of this role. You will attend regular user group and waste review meetings, deliver training tailored to different audiences, and collaborate on campaigns that promote best practice and behavioural change. We are looking to recruit a number of highly motivated postdoctoral fellows, PhD students, a lab technician and a research officer to join the international lab of Professor Khuloud Al-Jamal, a Chair of Drug Delivery and Nanomedicine. The aim of our lab is to use nanotechnology to better understand, diagnose and treat diseases with particular interests in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. We are a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary lab eager to create an impact on people’s lives taking research a step beyond the lab. Research projects we are looking to pursue are in the areas of extracellular vesicles & cell therapy, immunotherapy, nucleic acids therapeutics for brain cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Duties and Responsibilities: Design and develop small molecules, nucleic acids and peptide therapeutics. Design, prepare and characterize nanoparticles. Employ state-of-the-art techniques to assess the physicochemical properties of nanoparticles, ensuring their stability, drug release kinetics, encapsulation efficiency and electron microscopy imaging. Integrate innovative approaches to enhance the specificity and efficiency of advanced therapeutics, with a particular emphasis on addressing challenges related to tissue penetration and targeted delivery. Conduct cell culture studies using cell lines, primary cultures and/or patients' tissues for efficacy evaluation. Conduct in vivo studies, including administration of nanoparticles, monitoring fate, therapeutic response, and assessing the impact on disease progression. Develop relevant disease models to assess therapeutic efficacy of a specific treatment. Demonstrate understanding of the disease pathology for better design of advanced therapeutics. Coordinate with clinical collaborators to obtain ethical approvals and obtaining human tissue samples for subsequent studies. Engage in collaborative projects both internally and externally.
