Our faculty collaborates closely with industry on translational research and innovation with focus on addressing pertinent industry challenges to impact businesses.  The Singapore Teaching and Academic Research Talent (START) Scheme is co-funded by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and SIT to encourage and support outstanding young Singaporeans interested in pursuing an academic career at SIT. The Applied Research Fellowship aims to provide doctoral candidates who are about to complete or have recently completed their studies an opportunity to engage in advanced training and/or research at an overseas university for one year.  Besides financial support, awardees will also receive academic mentorship.  Upon completion of the Fellowship, awardees will be considered for Assistant Professorship. Eligibility and Selection Criteria Singapore citizen  Doctoral candidates who have recently completed or are about to complete their studies in a discipline under the supported areas for START below  Excellent academic record plus a high degree of proficiency and motivation for selected research area  Have been accepted or have applied for a postdoctoral training at a leading overseas university in a research area that is aligned with SIT’s supported areas  A keen interest in an academic career Value of Fellowship The Fellowship provides  Monthly stipend  Overseas maintenance allowance  Return economy airfare  Conference and fieldwork grants  Overseas medical insurance  Fellows will also each be assigned a SIT faculty mentor throughout their post-doctoral training and have opportunities to participate in faculty development programmes.  The fellowship is tenable for one year. On an exception basis, a two-year programme may be supported. Service Commitment One year for every year of sponsorship. Supported Areas for START - Health Sciences Diagnostic Radiography: Radiography involves the controlled use of ionising radiation, radioactive substances and non-ionising radiation to produce diagnostic quality images of the human body, facilitating the diagnosis and treatment of patients (Allied Health Professions Act 2011). Dietetics: Dietetics involves the management of medical conditions and promotion of health through application of food and nutrition. Dietitians provide medical nutrition therapy and implement specific diet strategies for chronic medical conditions, illnesses, or injuries (Singapore Nutrition and Dietetics Association). Nursing: Registered nurses render health services to individuals, families, and communities (Singapore Nursing Board Code for Nurses and Midwives 2018). Speech and Language Therapy: Speech and Language Therapy involves assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of communication and swallowing disorders (Allied Health Professions Act 2011). Occupational Therapy: Occupational therapy involves assessment and interventions to work or school, self-care, leisure or play, physical environments as well as cognitive, mental and physical components of function to enable individuals affected by physical injury or illness, developmental or learning disabilities, psychosocial dysfunctions or the aging process, to engage in everyday life occupations in order to maximise independent performance of life roles, prevent disability and maintain health (Allied Health Professions Act 2011). Physiotherapy: Physiotherapy involves assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of pain, injury, or any other physical dysfunction, through the use of education, exercise, manual therapy, electro-physical agents, technology or any other treatment for those purposes (Allied Health Professions Act 2011).

Description The Robotics and Intelligent Systems Control Laboratory (RISC) at New York University Abu Dhabi invites applicants to apply for the open Post-doctoral Associate position to perform primarily research on Reinforcement Learning, and/or Optimal Control, and/or Model Predictive Control. RISC invites qualified applicants in the areas of electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering, or other related department to apply. The successful applicants will design controllers for a variety of complicated systems. These include humanoids, quadrupeds, omnidirectional drones and others. These controllers will rely on principles like Reinforcement Learning (RL), Model Predictive Control (MPC), or other Optimized Controllers. Essentially this position is in the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Control and target as applications the Robotics area. The applicant should to publish some of his/her results in top conferences/journals including the Control and Decision Conference (CDC), International Conference on Automation and Robotics (ICRA) and others. Applicants must have a Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or closely related fields. Experience with control systems including the design of RL and MPC are required. Work with autonomous robots and competency in the Robot Operating System, and/or Physics Engine Simulators are preferred. The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. About RISC: The Robotics & Intelligent Systems Control Laboratory (RISC Lab) at New York University Abu Dhabi focuses on perception, control, and planning in primarily autonomous robots. Our vision is to realize fully capable mobile agents and collaborative autonomous agents. RISC is an integral member of the Center for AI and Robotics (CAIR). CAIR has significant work in localization for autonomous agents, cooperative area coverage and mapping, cooperative aerial manipulation, and autonomous ground & aerial package transportation and delivery. RISC Lab operates in two research spaces, the office space located in A1-005, and the Kinesis workspace B2.C3.029.E in collaboration with the Core Technology Platform of NYUAD.
