The Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences is located 80km from Nagpur, Maharashtra in India, on a campus of 125 acres. It is situated in a quiet setting away from the bustling city, but is well-connected to surrounding cities.

The institute was granted Deemed to be University status in 2005 by the University Grants Commission. The institute aims to create a skilled workforce and augment the healthcare delivery system in India.

The Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences has five faculties: allied health sciences, ayurveda, dentistry, medicine, and nursing. Across these faculties, students can study at an undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma level. Dentistry, nursing and physiotherapy students are taught at the Acharya VinobaBhave Rural Hospital, a state of the art hospital that provides life-saving treatments.

Students have the opportunity to discover and develop their creative and literacy talents through the university magazine, which focuses on a specific topic for each issue. Issues have included focuses on medicine, dentistry, nursing and physiotherapy.

Moving away from the academic side, students can also participate in several sporting activities. These include yoga, basketball, carrom, table-tennis and chess. Students can also attend and compete in competitions, such as the Indira Gandhi Medical College Sports Competition in Nagpur.

Datta Meghe is located in Wardha, Maharashtra, which gets its name from the Wardha River in the district. The town plays a prominent role in the cotton trade and soybean farming. Notable cultural sights in the area include the Gitai Mandir temple, famous for its lack of roof. Mahatma Ghandi settled in Warda in 1934, in a village called Shegaon, which became an institution known as the Sevagram Ashram.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Theoretical Evolutionary Biology  Modelling the Evolution of Sex-Specific Differences in Life History and Immunity Supervisor: Dr. Piret Avila Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Helsinki The Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Academy Research Fellow Dr. Piret Avila are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral researcher to develop theoretical work on the evolution of sex-specific differences in immunity and life history traits. We are accepting applications immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The ideal starting date is February/March 2026, but it can be later.  The position involves developing mathematical models to understand how natural selection shapes sex-specific immune strategies. The goal is to generate quantitative predictions testable against empirical data from diverse ecological contexts. We use methods from theoretical evolutionary biology, including optimal control theory, life history modelling, adaptive dynamics, and population genetics. This position is part of the interdisciplinary consortium at the University of Helsinki, Sex Differences in Immunity, led by Dr. Avila, which brings together researchers across evolutionary biology, immunology, genomics, demography, and statistics to bridge evolutionary and mechanistic explanations of sex differences in immunity. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The Research Engineer (Microgrid Controller Design) will contribute to a one-year applied research project funded by the Singapore Army, focusing on the development of a mobile DC microgrid for military tactical applications. The role involves designing and implementing advanced control algorithms to coordinate multiple energy sources including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV, and diesel generators, and dynamically assign grid-forming roles under varying operating conditions. The engineer will develop, simulate, and test controller logic using MATLAB/Simulink or similar environments, analyse performance across diverse scenarios, and document results for technical reporting. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in control systems, software development, and power or energy management applications. Key Responsibilities Participate in the research project to design a mobile DC microgrid controller for military tactical applications. Develop control algorithms for dynamic master selection, coordinating BESS, PV, diesel generators, and other sources. Implement predictive, rule-based, or optimisation-based control strategies using MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or embedded software tools. Integrate controller logic with the microgrid model and validate performance under different simulated conditions. Conduct testing of control strategies under various operating conditions such as extreme weather, load variation, equipment failure and deployment constraints. Prepare documentation, flowcharts, control logic diagrams, and controller specifications for the final report. Assist with procurement of software licences and technical equipment. Conduct Risk Assessments and ensure compliance with WSH regulations. Support supervision of capstone project students involved in the project. Work independently and collaboratively to maintain research software and project tools. To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by supervisor. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from a recognised university. Strong programming skills in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, or similar environments. Understanding of control systems, power electronics, or energy management strategies. Experience in microgrid controller design is advantageous. Familiarity with BESS control strategies, SOC management, or optimisation algorithms preferred. Support supervision of capstone project students involved in the project. Ability to implement and test algorithmic logic using simulation tools. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills. Excellent technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

An exciting opportunity is available for a talented researcher to join a successful team in Primary Care Research Centre/Clinical Experimental Sciences to develop an e-learning tool for clinicians supporting families with sleep problems and ADHD. This will be in collaboration with teams at the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University. The post is available under the supervision of Professor Cathy Hill and Dr Mary Steele in close collaboration with the wider DISCA team (www.discasleep.org.uk). The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for supporting the development of an e-learning tool based on analysis of qualitative research on user needs, user feedback and a review of existing educational material and approaches that have been successful in similar contexts. The role will also include planning for the dissemination and implementation of the tool. There will be opportunities to contribute to other elements of the research programme subject to capacity and competencies.  Applicants will have experience of conducting qualitative research and developing and delivering education for healthcare professionals. You will also have experience of working collaboratively with external teams. Successful applicants will have demonstrated their ability to work independently and efficiently in a research context and will have excellent written English skills with meticulous attention to detail. Your knowledge and experience will usually have been gained through a relevant PhD, but may also have been achieved via other research experience, normally supported by a relevant postgraduate degree.
