City University of Macau (CityU Macau) inherited the legacy of the University of East Asia (Macao’s first university, 1981) and the Asia International Open University, officially renamed in 2011. It is committed to pursue the core value of Digital Humanities, Social Sciences, and Interdisciplinary Studies underpinned by AI and Data Science as a comprehensive university with Macao Characteristics, China Soul, and Global Vision.

As a leader in hospitality and tourism management, the University offers TedQual-accredited programs by the UN Tourism at all degree levels. The “Hospitality & Tourism Management” ranked 37th in ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2025, while “Economics” debuted in the 301–400 range. The University ranked in the ESI global top 1% in Social Sciences, General, and Engineering.

The University ranked in the 601–800 range in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, and the 201–205 range in THE Asia University Rankings 2026.
