Charles Darwin University serves Australia’s vast Northern Territory, where around 30 per cent of the population is Indigenous, ten times the proportion in the rest of the country. As such, it says it is deeply engaged with Australia’s Indigenous peoples, and a substantial minority of students are from these communities.

Situated on Australia’s northern coast, the university’s main campuses are actually closer to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea than Melbourne or Sydney. Its research focus is on tropical and desert regions in the Asia-Pacific region and Australia, and boasts strengths in areas such as human health, community and identity, and natural resource management.

Students can study both on campus and externally, fitting their course around their family or work life. CDU is also a dual-sector university, which means it offers a broad range of courses from higher education to vocational education and training.

The Casuarina campus, in the northern suburbs of Darwin, offers students a nearby beach, acres of parkland, as well as sporting facilities and Chinese and Indonesian gardens.  The university also has a base in both Melbourne and Sydney which are focused on international students. 

The CDU Foundation, supported by donations and other contributions, has for a quarter of a century been raising money to help strengthen links between the university and wider society. One of the areas it supports is the study of Greek language and culture, and CDU aims to build Australia’s best Greek studies programme. The university has even appointed the musician Nikos Kourkoulis as an ambassador for its Greek programme.

Description The Center of Astrophysics and Space Science, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Junior Research Scientist to work with the Mars Research Group to support scientific investigations of the Martian atmosphere and surface using data from the Emirates Mars Mission (EMM) “Hope” probe. The position contributes to ongoing research, data analysis, simulation efforts, and dissemination of scientific results from Hope observations. The funding for this position is provided by the UAE Space Agency. The successful applicant will; Analyze Emirates Mars Mission (Hope) data: Conduct detailed analysis of atmospheric and surface observations collected by the UAE’s Hope probe to support scientific goals of understanding Martian atmospheric and surface processes. Assist with analysis of additional Mars mission datasets: Examine and interpret complementary data from other Mars missions to strengthen current models and provide comparative insights that enhance research conclusions from Hope observations. Develop Machine Learning methods and run numerical simulations on NYUAD’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) system. Support preparation of scientific manuscripts and presentations: Assist in drafting reports, papers, and conference materials to communicate research findings to the global scientific community. A candidate with a Master’s degree is preferred; however, the minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in physics, computer science, or a related discipline. The role requires strong programming skills in Python, competency in data analysis and scientific computing, and the ability to work with large datasets. Description NYUAD Water Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research scientist to work on the development of membrane desalination to treat water from the Arabian Gulf feed sources and on the design and scale-up of low energy membranes for water purification, under the supervision of Professor Nidal Hilal, Director of the Water Research Center and Global Professor of Engineering. The successful applicant will drive an exciting project on developing functional membrane materials, including nanostructured polymer membranes tailored to microfiltration, ultrafiltration, membrane distillation, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. The candidate will employ advanced membrane fabrication techniques and characterization tools (SEM, TEM, DSC, TGA, BET, etc.) to establish fabrication-structure-property-performance relationships in novel materials for sustainable desalination and water treatment. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists and engineers, graduate students and undergraduate students. The successful applicant will manage projects and work closely with postdoctoral researchers, build deep technical knowledge and develop transferable solutions. He/she will participate in developing novel concepts and writing proposals. He/she will work towards solving complex problems with efficiency and creativity. He/she will be involved in writing reports, authoring publications, drafting patents and presenting results at conferences. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of materials science and engineering, membrane fabrication techniques, membrane characterization tools and separation processes. He/she will be detail-oriented, well-organized and will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and as part of a team. Applicants must hold a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, and have at least six years of experience in the field, along with extensive research and publication in well-known journals and conference papers or similar research accomplishments. Excellent experimental and analytical skills relevant to the project (in particular membrane fabrication and characterization) are required. Candidates with demonstrated history of peer reviewed publications in a related area, along with prior expertise in materials science and analytical chemistry will be preferred.
