About Central China Normal University

Central China Normal University (CCNU) in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, originated in 1903 with the founding of the Boone College. This evolved into the university’s main predecessor, Huazhong University, which then merged with Zhongua University and the Pedagogical College of Zhongyuan University. Its current incarnation came in 1985, when the new name was formally given. Nestled on a hill bordering a lake, the campus covers over 330 acres and is divided into two: the main campus and the south lake campus. This comprises 25 schools and departments and over 60 research centres. As one of 211 institutions on the National Education Priority Project and a funded member of Project 985 since 2007, CCNU is one of China’s top three normal universities, or teachers’ colleges, together with East China Normal University and Beijing Normal University. The university was one of the first in China to offer doctoral and postgraduate degrees, and now offers 94 doctoral programmes and 184 masters programmes. CCNU has academic links with over 20 higher education institutions around the world, with the main ones including Oxford University, McGill University, and Moscow State University. The university hosts two national key laboratories: the Laboratory for Quark and Lepton Physics and the Laboratory for Pesticide Science and Chemical Biology. In 2014, CCNU signed cooperation agreements with GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, RMIT University, and Macquarie University. Alumni of note include early leader of the Communist Party of China, Yun Daiying, Foreign Minister of China, Chen Yi, and 1978 to 1992 leader of China, Deng Xiaoping.

We are seeking an experienced senior commercial technology lawyer to join a dynamic and collaborative team within the University's Office of General Counsel, working across technology, IT, procurement, data and broader commercial matters.The Senior Lawyer (Corporate and Commercial- IT) will provide sound, timely and cost-effective legal advice to support the Digital Sydney Program which is a multiyear project aimed at uplifting digital capability across the whole organisation. This role is ideal for an experienced legal professional who wants to work in a more innovative and business savvy legal team and is open to championing new ways of working. Your key responsibilities will be: providing high level strategic legal advice to University clients on a broad range of issues relating to the University's operations including information technology law, privacy, procurement and probity, collaborations, corporations' law, contract law and competition law advising on a broad range of ICT agreements, including complex, high value and bespoke technology procurements including master ICT agreements, SaaS and cloud services agreements, software licensing, professional services agreements, managed services, hosting, data processing agreements, reseller agreements, SOWs and order forms advising on ICT contracting frameworks, including government panel agreements such as Core&, ICTA, and MICTA advising on ICT procurement, digital projects, data management, privacy, cybersecurity and associated risks managing and balancing multiple internal stakeholders (ICT, Cyber, Privacy, Procurement, Finance, Risk, business owners) drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements actively partnering to share deep institutional knowledge and legal expertise to support strategically aligned decision making, and to optimize operational efficiencies proactively identifying actual and potential legal and regulatory risks and providing strategic recommendations for managing identified risks commercial dispute resolution, and to negotiate provisions which promote the University's strategic interests, as instructed by senior officers of the University contributing to the development of policy and legislation affecting the higher education sector communicating to the University about legal concepts, issues and developments. About you qualifications in law and admission to practice in Australia and hold a current practising certificate proven experience in advising on and negotiating complex technology agreements, SaaS agreements, software licensing, cloud contracts, ICT procurement, privacy, cybersecurity and digital transformation projects strong interest in emerging technologies (AI, Cloud, SaaS) approximately 8 years post admission legal experience, with experience in the higher education sector desirable extensive experience in contracts, intellectual property and commercial law, and the conduct of negotiations, the drafting of documents and the provision of advice in these and related areas experience in drafting and reviewing a range of commercial agreements (including services agreements, documents for tenders, collaborative agreements, confidentiality agreements, and a range of collaborations between public and private sector organisations experience in providing advice on changes and developments in the Australian regulatory environment related to contracts and consumer protections excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate complex legal issues in verbal and written reports, including the ability to develop trusted relationships and operate with tact and professionalism across complex internal and external environments ability to work with a range of different stakeholders both internally and externally a growth mindset and willingness to tackle new challenges and ways of working is essential. About the job: The purpose of the job is to be an active member of the research project on the history and current impact of intellectual property (IP) rights for plants, to collect archival and interview data, to disseminate research findings, and to assist with the planning and delivery of the research activity so that the overall research objectives of the project are met. This work is being carried out at Queen's University Belfast School of Law as part of the Future Leaders Fellowship (FLF) research project "A Century of Propertising Plants: examining the role of intellectual property law in protecting biodiversity and food security," funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC). The main activities and responsibilities include: Develop and plan an area of personal research and expertise, and undertake research under supervision for the Future Leaders Fellowship (FLF) research project. Design and develop data collection and field research activities in order to obtain reliable data from public IP databases, archives, and interviews. Carry out analysis, critical evaluation, and interpretation using methodologies and other techniques appropriate to qualitative and quantitative research in law and history of plant breeding. Present regular progress reports on research to members of the research group or to external audiences to disseminate and publicise research findings. The research group will include the FLF holder and the co-lead. Prepare, often in consultation with supervisor, material for publication in national and international journals and presentations at international conferences. Assist FLF holder in the preparation of funding proposals and applications to external bodies. Carry out routine administrative tasks associated with the FLF research project to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget. These might include organisation of project meetings and documentation. Read academic papers, journals and legal texts to keep abreast of developments in plant intellectual property law and related disciplines. About the person: The research assistant must meet the following criteria: Have, or be about to obtain, a relevant PhD. Relevant experience in research relevant to the FLF project and academic publications. Ability to contribute to broader project management and administrative processes. Sufficient breadth and depth of relevant specialist knowledge and experience of research methods and techniques relevant to the FLF project. Ability to clearly communicate with a range of audiences and ability to build contacts and participate in internal and external networks.
