Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is a private research university in Cleveland, Ohio. With its roots dating back to 1826, it became the university it is today in 1967 following a merger between Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve University.

The university serves over 11,000 students who are drawn from all 50 US states of America and 86 different countries.

CWRU is made up of eight schools. These are the school of Engineering, Arts and Sciences, Nursing, Applied Social Sciences, Dental Medicine, Medicine, Law, Management, plus a Graduate Studies school. Faculty members total around 3,300.

It offers nearly 95 undergraduate degree programmes, 135 graduate and professional courses, and close to 140 dual-degree programmes. In addition to this, the university has over 100 interdisciplinary academic and research centres and institutes that, between them, provide an extensive range of study.

The university campus comprises 185 acres of land in Cleveland’s University Circle – known as ‘Ohio’s most spectacular square mile’ – and a 389-acre farm in the picturesque suburb of Hunting Valley.

CWRU has a budget of over $1 billion and research revenues of around $360 million. As well as an endowment of approximately $1.7 billion, it draws funds of roughly $166 million from private sources in the form of gifts and pledges.

It is a member of the Association of American Universities and has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commision of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. It is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a university with very high research activity.

The CWRU alumni network is more than 100,000 strong and the University is associated with 16 Nobel laureates.

Students of CWRU are known as Spartans because, like their namesake warriors, they ‘value an education that engages mind and body’.

Our Maynooth Access Programme (MAP) Student Advisors are a key part of how we support the access, retention, and success of students from groups identified in the National Access Plan 2022 -2028 (NAP) as having low participation in higher education. These groups include students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, mature students, further education award holders, lone parents, refugees and protection applicants, care-experienced students, students with disabilities, and members of the Traveller and Roma communities. MAP Student Advisors provide tailored, student-centred guidance and support through both one-to-one and group settings. They assist students identified in the NAP as having low participation in higher education in navigating university life and conduct individual needs assessments to identify additional supports as needed, to help students thrive. The MAP Student Advisor role involves assessing, coordinating, and ensuring integrated delivery of a broad range of internal and external academic, personal and financial supports, for students from NAP priority groups. MAP Student Advisors work collaboratively with colleagues across the University and with external stakeholders. This post is a MAP Student Advisor role with a particular focus on assistive technology within the wider student advisory service. Reporting to the MAP Student Advisory Manager within the Maynooth Access Programme (MAP), MAP Student Advisors are based in the Maynooth Access Office as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes outreach and student support professionals, clinical and technical specialists, and administrative staff. While MAP Student Advisors currently report to the MAP Student Advisory Manager, the breadth of engagement with colleagues across the university means that reporting lines can change in line with future organisational/structural reviews and developments as the service expands and develops. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Food, Chemical and Biotechnology Employment Type: Fixed Term As a University of Applied Learning, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) works closely with industry partners to deliver translational, impact-driven research. This role supports applied food processing research projects with strong industry relevance, focusing on product development, process optimization and food characterization. Key Responsibilities Lead bench formulation of mushroom‑based and plant‑based food products, especially focusing on muscle‑like architectures to achieve required texture, flavour, and nutrition performance during cooking, reheating, and storage. Apply advanced texturisation techniques, including cold extrusion, lamination, and natural tenderisation strategies (e.g. enzyme treatment, solid-state fermentation), to create fibrous, meat‑like structures that replicate bite, chewiness, and elasticity. Translate scalable solutions from upstream processing (e.g. protein gels, fermented ingredients) into robust food formulations by collaboration with culinary experts, and lead pilot‑scale trials at facilities such as SIT FoodPlant to assess manufacturability, reproducibility, and scalability for clinical and consumer studies. Conduct textural, rheological, and sensory characterisation to evaluate product performance and guide formulation refinement. Consolidate formulation, processing, and performance data to support techno‑economic analysis (TEA), life‑cycle assessment (LCA), and cost–benefit analysis (CBA). Prepare scientific manuscripts, technical reports, progress updates, and final deliverables for funding agencies and stakeholders. Engage and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to support progress meetings, technology transfer activities, conferences, and approved communication channels. Supervise and mentor junior researchers, engineers, students, and visiting scholars involved in the projects. The candidate is to communicate with all relevant internal and external stakeholders as required to meet the project deliverables. Any other adhoc duties assigned by supervisor. Job Requirements PhD in Food Science, Food Technology, or a closely related discipline. Strong Master’s degree holders with relevant experience may be considered. Strong background in food formulation, protein‑based systems, and texture design. Hands‑on experience with texturisation technologies, such as extrusion, lamination, gelation, or emulsion‑based structuring. Knowledge of protein gels, microgels, fat mimetics, and structure–function relationships in food matrices. Familiarity with sensory evaluation, texture analysis, and rheological measurements, food system characterization. Experience translating laboratory‑scale formulations into pilot‑scale or industry‑relevant processes. Understanding of nutrition‑driven product design, particularly for vulnerable or special‑needs populations. Ability to integrate culinary considerations into scientific formulation and product development. Strong problem‑solving skills with attention to both scientific rigor and practical feasibility. Excellent communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration with engineers, nutritionists, clinicians, and industry partners. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary applied research team. Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. Good communication and stakeholder management skills, including liaison with vendors, suppliers, and external partners.
