Ca’ Foscari was founded in 1868 in a gothic palace from which the university name is inspired, and is located in central Venice on the banks of the Grand Canal. Students so fortunate to study here will find themselves in one of the most beautiful locations in the world, that of Italy’s legendary floating city and World Heritage Site. It is not only the location that can appeal, as Ca’Foscari’s academic performance consistently places it highly in places to study an undergraduate degree in Italy.

There are eight departments and five interdepartmental schools at Ca’ Foscari, as well as a dedicated graduate school. As a humanities oriented institution there is a committed element to the study of international cultures, and courses can be taken in the Department of Asian and North African studies and the Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies.

Among the sciences studied at Ca’Foscari is the department of Molecular Sciences, which combines the study of traditional sciences and a dual focus on developing renewable energy sources and biotechnologies.

Ca’ Foscari has a dedicated international college with accommodation on the island of San Servolo within the Venice lagoon. Students will take studies as part of their degree at Ca’ Foscari while also taking English language taught activities at the international college itself. The first cycle degree programme Philosophy, International Studies and Economics is taught entirely in English.

Notable graduates from Ca’ Foscari include billionaire businessmen Giuseppe De’Longhi and opera director Damiano Michieletto. They should have achieved international recognition for professional expertise, in addition to a good and sustained record of excellence in one or more of the following areas: Clinical Services Teaching and Learning Knowledge Exchange and Services Research (basic science, translational and/or clinical research) Preference will be given to those with demonstrated administrative contributions and management experience in universities or healthcare settings. Appointees of Clinical Professor of Practice shall be mapped to the relevant departments/units and take up a key role in achieving the highest standard of quality in all aspects of its clinically driven activities. They will foster academic collaboration within and outside the Faculty/University, and pursue new strategic directions for the further development of the Faculty and/or the respective departments/units. Appointees of Clinical Associate Professor of Practice/ Clinical Assistant Professor of Practice shall be mapped to the relevant departments/units with a strategic role to play in growing the clinical services. They shall also focus on the education of medical students with support to academic research. Those with less experience may be considered for appointments as Clinical Assistant Professor of Practice. There will be opportunities for academic growth, career development and mentorship, depending on the appointees’ interests and accomplishments. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. The role We are seeking an ambitious and highly motivated postdoctoral Research Fellow in quantitative genetics to join a multidisciplinary research team. The post involves working with a team based at the University of Surrey, King’s College London and the University of Oxford. The post is based at the University of Surrey with Professor Angelica Ronald. The project aims to advance understanding of the brain basis and common genetic architecture underlying infant and childhood neurodevelopment, with a particular focus on the development of autism spectrum conditions. Objectives will be achieved by applying advanced multivariate analytic methods to large-scale datasets emerging from genome-wide association studies of developmental traits. Existing datasets, including genetic, neuroimaging and clinical data, will be combined to generate novel insights into biological and developmental processes contributing to autism and related traits. You will be responsible for conducting a range of advanced quantitative analysis on secondary datasets incorporating genetic, neuroimaging and clinical data on child development. You will have responsibility for supporting integration across the study team including: overseeing data transfer agreements between institutions; version-controlling and archiving code and leading data cleaning, harmonisation and analysis. Throughout the project you will work with an interdisciplinary team of lead investigators and external collaborators. You will have access to advanced methodological training courses and other professional development training opportunities. You will lead on high-impact publications, conference presentations and dissemination of results. About you You should have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline such as quantitative genetics, behavioural genetics, human genetics, developmental psychology, neuroscience and individual differences psychology (although individuals who have almost completed a doctoral degree may be appointed). You will also have an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline with a 2:1 or first-class grade (or international equivalent). You will already have some experience in conducting quantitative data analytic studies and preparing data for analysis and be proficient in using R, Python or similar programming language. You should have the ability to write clearly and concisely with a good publication record commensurate with the level of your career, and the ability to work independently with excellent organisation and communication skills.
