Newman University was initially founded in 1968 as Newman College of Higher Education. In 2008 it was renamed Newman University College and in 2013 it was granted full university status. There are two faculties at the university, the Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies, and the Faculty of Education. Students can study a range of courses from accounting and finance to criminology, and mathematics to theology and philosophy. Committed to creating a sustainable campus, the university uses the latest technology to control energy consumption and to reduce its carbon footprint. Newman University also strives to maintain a Fairtrade status to help tackle poverty in the developing world. It works with 400 partnership schools throughout the West Midlands in the UK to broaden the global perspectives of the communities it works with. This work reflects the university’ ethos of respect for others, social justice, and equity. Research is an important part of the university’s work to contribute to social justice, make an impact in society, and transfer knowledge to the local community. The university is fully equipped with modern research centres including the Children, Young People and Family Research Centre, and the Newman Institute for Leadership in Education. The university is located in a quiet residential area a few miles outside of Birmingham, a city in the UK. Birmingham is situated in England’s West Midlands region and is home to a network of canals and rivers. The city was a major manufacturing powerhouse during the Industrial Revolution, which led to the development of science, technology and the economy. Today Birmingham is a bustling metropolis and is considered the cultural, financial, and social centre of both the East and West Midlands.

We engage with students, community, and stakeholders to provide critical programs, such as the Northern Territory Medical Program, Paramedicine, Rural Clinical School, and the University Department of Rural Health. Our postgraduate education pathways (Remote Health Practice program), provides workforce development through Indigenous health and clinical skills training, and we have a community driven research program led by researchers committed to improving health outcomes. We work alongside Poche SA+NT focussing on Indigenous leadership capacity development and developing the Indigenous health workforce. All activities are driven by our values which focus on the long-term and short-term needs of the NT community. About the Role We are currently building our Research Team to support research in Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance in Remote Australia (TARRA). This is an exciting and unique time to join our expanding Research Team and work across meaning research addressing the rising threat of antimicrobial resistance in remote Australia. With an aim of strengthening the Remote Primary Health setting in the Northern Territory by working closely with the Chief Investigator and broader Research Team, the Research Fellow will be responsible for project implementation, project coordination, data collection, analysis of data, and the preparation of manuscripts for publication. The incumbent will also support the overall management of this collaborative research program comprising four research arms, project communications (internal team communications and external stakeholder communications), and the project’s governance processes. You will also have the opportunity to: Actively contributing to the research project by collaborating with the Research Team to successfully deliver project milestones and Key Performance Indicators. Independently contributing to the planning and execution of research by offering new and innovative ideas, reviewing relevant literature and other sources of information, actively participating in the production of data, contributing to the writing and editing of grant applications and attending seminars, meetings and conferences. Description The Political Science Program in the Division of Social Science is inviting applications for a Lecturer position. The successful candidate will oversee the capstone seminar sequence for senior undergraduate students enrolled in the Program’s International Affairs and Foreign Policy (IAFP) concentration, offer IAFP-designated classes, and assist the Head of Undergraduate Affairs in advising students. The capstone project is one of the culminating experiences for students at NYU Abu Dhabi. Every student will conduct capstone work in their fourth year, a year-long endeavor aiming at a significant piece of work appropriate to the IAFP concentration. The lecturer will train students in their capstone to demonstrate knowledge of key concepts and analytical methods in IAFP, including one or more of the following topics: conflict and cooperation dynamics, strategic interactions of states, international organizations, and non-state actors across domains such as war, terrorism, trade, development, finance, environment, and human rights. The candidate will be expected to run the capstone seminar sequence for 30 to 40 students in IAFP across two sections throughout the year, and offer two IAFP-designated courses each year. The appointee will also contribute to the academic, professional, outreach, and knowledge-transfer activities of the Division, School, and University, and is expected to build meaningful collaborations with local NGOs, government bodies, industry, and other external partners. General Requirements Candidates should have (1) a PhD/Post-doctoral experience in the field of biodiversity conservation ecology, or a closely related discipline; (2) relevant postdoctoral and/or independent research experience; (3) a strong publication record in peer-reviewed, international journals; (4) demonstrate success in securing competitive external research grants and fundings; (5) a strong commitment to excellent teaching, student supervision, outreach, and knowledge transfer; (6) experience in, or strong potential for, working with local NGOs and other external partners, and (7) the ability to contribute to, applied areas such as carbon auditing, sustainability assessment or related fields, alongside the university’s goal of producing socially significant research that informs sustainable development. The appointees are expected to submit applications for RGC grants, other local/overseas competitive grants and/or fellowship schemes. Appointment The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
